"Achterhoek" sounds like "back corner" or "back hedge" to me. So local patriotism seems to be quite common for you.

That explains it, though the Boers got counted as "Low-German farmers" and in a wider sense, you had been regarded as Low Germans.
As far as I know, your identity comes from the Low Franks, who pronounced things a bit different than the more central and southern lain Franks, but "Duits" is pretty much a relative of the same word as the Old Frankish one, so in a way, we both trace our identities from the Franks, who used to call everyone "diot" or "diota" [people] that had been shifted to "Duits" and "Deutsch". Oh and the French also trace their name from the Franks and even their first kings had been Franks.

"Holland" apparently comes from Old Dutch "holt lant" and that is pretty much the same word as in Low German, which didn't fully take part in the second Germanic sound shift.
Oddly enough, the Pennsylvanian Dutch are called "Dutch" even when they're Germans. The name "Germany" comes from the Latin word "Germania". Anything about the origin of the term before the usage by the Romans is only guesswork.

Btw.: we also did a lot of trade under the Hanse (map)

Not a problem, I don't know much about Dutch history, Dutch culture and how Dutch people feel about their identity, so it's good to have someone around who can tell me more about those things. Like for example, why the Netherlands separated from the Holy Roman Empire.

You're welcome ^^

Actually, it's pretty interesting to know that the eastern Dutch dialects and the Western (low) German dialects merge into one another that you have to question whether Dutch is really a separate language or just a distant relative of Low German with West Central German influence.

Your particular group of dialects have been called "Deutschniederländisch" (Duits Nederlands). I wonder why the Dutch stopped calling themselves "Duits" ("of the People/People-ish") only a few centuries ago and instead highlighted their regional identity of coming from the Lower Countries (Netherlands) into their national one.

"Nedersaksisch" is "Low Saxon/Nether Saxon" and not "Dutch Saxon". What you mean is probably "Nederlands Nedersaksisch" or "Dutch Low Saxon" (Netherland's Low Saxon).

"Dutch" is "Deutsch" and that is the same as Old English "þēod", Old Frankish "diot"/"diota" and Old Saxon "thiod"/"thioda" : people. It's just further west than "Plattdeutsch" in the dialect continuum of the West-Germanic languages. We all speak "Theedish" (People-ish).

"Duits" used to mean both "Dutch" and "German".

The "Netherlands" are thus the "Low Countries" of the "People".

No problem! I always like telling people about certain anime :) And I hope you enjoy when you get around to watching them ^^
barisu May 4, 2017 12:47 PM
Haha, precies hetzelfde

Klopt, ik hou er ook niet van om dezelfde genre achter elkaar te kijken, 1 of 2 keer maakt niet uit maar daarna toch wel wat afwisseling graag

Hey, Thanks for the friend request :)

Charlotte for me is on my favorites because It was one of the first anime I got invested into and enjoyed till the end so it holds personal meaning since it's what got me more interested in anime. The show itself is a good watch in my eyes if you just want to sit down and watch something and you're not someone who tends to analyze every details of a anime to critique it. I can't say it's my most favorite anime anymore after seeing shows like Code Geass, Steins;Gate and so on but it's still a really good anime compared to some anime out there and It's pretty short if you want to try it :P

And for Fate/Zero It's a all around good show if you like Fantasy/Action type shows, When I first started it to see what it was about due to hearing so much about it I stopped watching around episode 3 but I gave it another shot just a while back and it really picks up after episode 4 or so, The show has really good animation and great fight scenes and if you try it and enjoy it I recommend watching Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works Season 1 & 2 after it since it maintains the good fight scenes and animation instead of the original Fate/stay night but you can watch either of them or if you want you can watch both of them since The Fate series has a bit of a complicated way of doing their story ^^

- My Hero Academia
op te halen

en dan de finished kun je bijv
- Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate kijken, goede romance met slice of life
