Sure... I could rate anime by animation quality, story, music, etc... but then, wouldn't that just be a generic anime list? If this is MY anime list, then I'm gonna rate anime against the most valuable resource I have: my time. I figure, if I enjoy an anime enough that I would spend the finite amount of life I have on it again and again, then I must really like that anime. So, here's my rating system:

10 - I will definitely watch again and again
9 - I will probably watch again
8 - I would like to watch again, but probably won't
7 - I enjoyed, but I don't need to watch again
6 - I somewhat enjoyed, but definitely will not watch again
5 - I didn't enjoy watching, but I get how one could
4 - I didn't enjoy watching, and I don't get how anyone could
3 - I strongly disliked watching this
2 - I was in awe of how poor this was
1 - This was appalling and should not exist
