RIP sorry for the late reply.

As far as I know there are no internet cafes in the US and, even if there are, they're nowhere near as prominent in they are in Asian nations. I see your point and I do wholeheartedly agree with that statement though I can also see and understand why some people might argue it's anime (regardless of facts). Regardless, The King's Avatar is on MAL and I doubt they will remove it anytime soon.

I used to see it that way but, as more and more people move to Japan to work on anime and as Japan outsources things like animation to people abroad as they themselves lack the manpower to create the amount of content the community demands, I feel anime is becoming more and more of a global medium.

I haven't (nor do I plan on) watched Neo Yokio and I can respect what you're saying though personally I do feel The King's Avatar had more in common with Asian themes/culture than many other shows (including Neo Yokio from what I've heard). It exhibits people living where they work (something less common in the west) and locations specifically designed for simply coming in and playing on a pc (something almost non-existent in the west). I will agree that The King's Avatar, compared to most anime, is more foreign and obscure than most, I would not say it is as alienated as other, western made shows.

I do find it ironic and agree that the US has heavily influenced the anime industry and anime itself is becoming a more global medium (I believe Gigguk made a video about anime becoming mainstream where he discusses this point). However, despite it's US backing, anime represents a unique, Asian culture and the original influences from the west have been, for the most part, pushed out or changed. Though new western influences (such as Amazon, Netflix and Crunchyroll) are influencing anime, I believe the culture presented in them is still unique and more Asian than Euro-American. I do believe QZGS is a bit closer to "anime" than shows like Neo-Yokio though since the primary factor in whether something is "anime" or not is the geographical location it originated from and China is much closer to Japan than the US (and therefore also most likely has a bigger economic and cultural impact on them than we do).

I read your review about "The King's Avatar" and I feel the reason Chinese + Korean cartoons based off of anime are listed here while those made in the west aren't is probably because of the vast cultural differences we have w/ eastern Asia. However, both China and Korea have a large amount of Japanese immigrants and their cultures more closely resemble Japans and therefore their cartoons most likely contain a higher amount of relate-ability to an Asian audience.

Neo Yokoi, despite getting aid from Japanese animation studios, is written by white Americans, not Asians and therefore the cultural divide is very present and I feel that's why Neo Yokio is kept off this site while Chinese and Korean cartoons such as The King's Avatar aren't (though to me, neither of them are anime as anime should be made in Japan but w/e).

Your review on King's Avatar is really good. Basically sums up my opinion on the show.

Amazing doesn't begin to describe how your review on Grave of the fireflies was!

Away from the the actual review, your style and perspective really hits home for me.
Like when you say:
"I'm not very certain about the scores I give."
and...
"A critic should not only analyse how good a movie is, but also look at the themes and messages of this movie."

From me; similarity in the first one, and total agreement on the second one. Hell, we have works that we share the exact same score at.

All i'm saying is; i dig your style, and looking forward to talk with you :)
It’s time to ditch the text file.
