Just finished Futatsu no Kurumi. A more recent anime look at the firebombing of Tokyo. Beautiful backgrounds with simplified, stylized character drawings. Fairly short and worth the watch. Unfortunately, nothing to do with atomic weapons. So far Barefoot Gen is your best bet. Will keep you in mind should I run across anything.
Thank YOU very much. I just watched Ushiro no Shomen Daare. Add it to the tear-jerker list. It didn't deal with Hiroshima or Nagasaki but was a good historical look at the effects of war on ordinary people and how they coped with loss and depravation. Not as grim as Grave of the Fireflies or Barefoot Gen but definitely worth the time. Another your and your friend might be interested in is http://myanimelist.net/anime/6973/Senkou_no_Night_Raid. Although a bit fantastic in its characters with supernatural powers, it does deal quite factually with events in China leading up to the war with hints and forshadowings of atomic weapons. It is a fairly recent favorite of mine. Again. Thank you for the links. Do contact me anytime I can help you find something.
wow, how do you pick ur animes. i compared our shared anime`s, and besides Perfect Blue and Xenosaga you`ve seen only cool anime`s that i liked. I think i should watch more of the anime that you`ve watched. i`ll be keeping an eye on your list! =D
