I feel like I actually like it more than others here, and that's not saying a lot. Honestly, as far as anime adaptations go, I much prefer the dark comedy shorts that came before it. That series had characters we knew and setting, puzzles, monsters etc to toy around with that felt really fun. This is trying to take the concept into a more theatrical story, and it just doesn't work.
At the opening of the movie, it starts with the folk tale of the Oni and I couldn't begin to describe my RELIEF when it changed character focus to modern kids because the kids in
...
the folk tale all looked the same with the same shaved head and I just knew that if it stayed like that I wouldn't be able to tell anyone apart.
But then the actual movie gets going and it's... weird.
The story itself, in the beginning, I don't have anything against it. It has a strong start with a meta take that the Ao Oni we're familiar with as a freeware game is canon in that universe and some kids believe it's based on a local folk tale, and they want to investigate. So far, so good.
The art looks very on-the-cheap. With the Oni it can very much be argued to work to its advantage what with the poor photoshop manipulation being the jarring aspect that created that level of discomfort in players in the first place, but every other character just looks stiff and slow. Even blood I think flowed out more like chunky ketchup. It feels like all the real art budget went into the flowers.
And the story for the flowers... I mean, we're watching Ao Oni, not Ib. And overall, without getting into spoilers, I feel very dissatisfied with it as a semi-origin/power system for the Oni. I don't know if anything like it is touched on for the Ao Oni origins manga, but regardless it would have been lore better left in its simplicity. While I thought the plot was solid if a little basic for me in the beginning, the plot developments later just left me scratching my head in both confusion and disappointment.

Something brought me back to 2012 youtube with its rpgmaker horror craze, Ao Oni being probably one of the biggest names among them. When looking up the most recent version of the wiki, imagine my surprise that there are numerous new games, a couple of movies, novels, and anime based on it! So I recently gave this anime a watch.
Honestly I think people are being too harsh on the series overall. Most reviews I see either give it like a 10 or a 2. That's not to say that this style of comedic shorts are for everyone or that every joke hits the mark, but
...
it's not horrible by any means. In fact, I found the silliness mixed with dark humor to be very enjoyable, and the short run of each episode meant that the jokes themselves largely didn't overstay their welcome. Overall, I had a really great time.
What I do have a major criticism of, however, is the media player/translation effort used for the final episode, episode 13. I was watching the series on Crunchyroll (I have a free account there; that company has soured my taste for it enough that I wouldn't consider paying) and got to episode 13 and suddenly English subtitles weren't available. Only what looks like Spanish. I couldn't find a proper, working player for this episode, on Crunchyroll or not, that loads, plays sound, and is subtitled in English at the same time. Such a high bar for quality I had, I know. At one point, I ended up "watching" episode 13 by moving the track bar through the still frames so I could basically read the anime like a manga. It majorly brought down the mood for what I consider to be a delightful horror/dark comedy short series. In the end though, I switched my platform from PC to Crunchyroll on Roku and that seemed to resolve the issue. I'm still left rather annoyed, though.

I'm one of those people who looked up this music video because, at the end of video before the credits play, we see the only animated version of Jota Kujo, a fan-character created by CLAMP as an Mpreg (except for with an egg) BL storyline with Jotaro and Kakyoin from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Jota being their egg-born lovechild. You can look up that manga where he premieres in, but knowing that he was animated I just had to see what happened.
And to my surprise... a music video, celebrating characters from CLAMP. I only watched and read a handful of CLAMP properties, the majority of which
...
were shown in the sequel video because they seem to be from relatively-later series, so I can't say I know anyone. And because of that, the only character I recognize here in this first video is Jota. Otherwise, I'm left with pretty music against a background of a multitude of anime that CLAMP could have been proud of back in the day but are otherwise just random from my perspective.
Pretty music, finished off with Jota Kujo.

Why did it take so long for me to find out we had new Jojo manga?!
So I heard talk about the Jolyne one the most, mostly for all the memes about how horny this whole chapter is. And yeah... it's horny. :) Personally, I don't really care that it's ecchi. While ecchi really didn't float my boat in my earlier years of anime fandom, finding ecchi jewels like Shimoneta and Interspecies Reviewers really opened my eyes to the potential of the genre. As such, I'm reviewing this from the standpoint of an adult that can very much enjoy lighthearted sexual content like this, even as
...
a Jojo fan that likes Jolyne's character quite a bit. Though I'm also bi and a Jolyne simp, so you could say I'd get as much gratification out of this as anybody.
Bad Romance is a fun Stand. Just getting everyone addicted to hentai. And Jolyne seems to suffer some effects when the Stand User lady really starts liking her. Story isn't much, but it's cute, fun, and ties up neatly.
I'd say the main thing I didn't care for was the art style which was a little too cutesy for my liking, especially something about Jolyne's face in this chapter.

I was looking through the database to see what was in here related to the Final Fantasy series. There were anime segments I anticipated related to VII, XV, and that one movie no one likes to talk about. I play quite a bit of FFXIV now though (post-Heavensward, main White Mage as a female Elezen) and finding this little manga was so enjoyable. I might not really be a beginner anymore, but it's a cute comedy all the same. I'm truly sorry that I've only been able to find an English translation for the first volume.
You follow a beginner player that needs to learn the
...
ropes of the game, and a mentor player by the name of Lalafell-Sensei takes control! There isn't much else to the premise, and there really doesn't need to be.

I was catching up on some anime I'd been falling behind on and caught up on Yami Shibai in time for the spooky season. They tend to always be decent short horror stories, and this season I was surprised with a zodiac theme.
I'm sorry to say I was slow to catch that, only realizing it about halfway through the season (around the Rooster episode), even with the intro giving a clear indication of what they were doing. The thirteen episodes represent the 12 traditional zodiac animals, and the 13th would have been the Year of the Cat that never officially became a zodiac animal
...
- Fruits Basket fans tremble.
You could say my not realizing the theme until late, though, is a testament to how naturally the different animals were integrated into the plot. As such, I was impressed with the direction of the episodes. As always, how effective they are as creepy stories various for each person and also episode to episode, but I overall found it very enjoyable.

I am just completely swayed but the cuteness, as someone who has owned and loved both cats and dogs, and other animals besides. A short but sweet series with little snippets of runtime, so you get the cute animal joke and then you move on.
A little bright spot in the day where you can get a good laugh, and it doesn't need to rely on long or complicated plots or characters that just seem to drag after a time. Just a woman and her pets - gotta love it.
Both Cat and Dog are as cute as can be and are extremely relatable despite having
...
such defined personalities.

Well this was just a delight., The Saga of Tanya the Evil, out of the shows I've watched with each other to eventually check out Isekai Quartet, was probably among my least-favorite. Nothing against it, granted - military settings, more than anything else, are a aspect that just really struggles to pull me in. But what was done because of this shipment of pasta that needed water, sauce, and spices to be appetizing to a troop with very little rationed resources... it was very fun, very human, and a more light-hearted segment of the series that was still handled in a way believable to the
...
characters.
I rather enjoyed it.

I was reading this book when going back after watching Parts 1-5 of the recent Jojo anime, completely up to date as of the time writing this review. I was set out to go back and read all of the manga, light novels, and other spin-off stories associated with the franchise to truly dive into all that Jojo has to offer. And I thought to do so in by order of what Part each product was associated with - prolonging my journey into the current manga-exclusive Parts, but something I found very sane and orderly.
But here arises my first issue: going by the synopsis given,
...
you would assume that this novel was simply an expansion of the lore we already knew, diving into the life of Jorge Joestar, husband of Lisa Lisa and father of Joseph. A story that took place between Parts 1 and 2 and what would no doubt be a relatively charming side-story of a WWI fighter pilot, plus the eventual doom we knew he would meet.
Well, THAT IS A LIE. A FILTHY STINKIN' LIE. THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO THE GALAXY-BRAIN AU SET-UPS TO THIS THAT IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNY. I UNIRONICALLY DESCRIBE THIS AS INJECTING THE WEIRDEST JOJO CRACK FICTION STRAIGHT INTO MY VEINS.
And yes, a fair warning for spoiler content into this book going in, as it actually discusses characters and scenarios from Parts 1-7. I actually had to put my reading on this book on hold as I saw mention of Funny Valentine, someone I knew to be the main antagonist of Part 7, and I had not even read Part 6 yet. And so, the novel got put off for some time until I had adequately caught up - and I would very much advise the same of anyone attempting to read this.
You begin pre-Part 2, as you would expect, but with an odd murder case involving a child whose skin could peel off whole. If that didn't set the tone for the weird you're in for, this will:
There are also TWO Jorge Joestars, of different universes and a different lineage, one in a pre-Part 2 setting and another in an AU Morioh/Part 4 setting. The chapters alternate between their perspectives.
AU Morioh crew teaming up with AU Passione
Spontaneous trip to Mars
The most elaborate Dio scheme yet, and way too many Kars. And Funny/Funnier/Funniest Valentines.
You almost forget that the writer also introduced a Sherlock-esque-but-way-more-messed-up character by the name of Tsukumojuku. The character had apparently gained some renown in Japan, though the story can get very incestuous and grotesque. I do not believe there is an English fan translation out there, but I did find the next best thing on Tumblr, a complete play-by-play someone did in providing an extensive summary. So for more context about the character of Tsukumojuku, I would advise reading this huge info dump before tackling Jorge Joestar as well.
https://sparklyjojos.tumblr.com/post/175167968918/first-1-2-3-4-5-second
And while I'm at it, since there aren't any official English translations for the novel itself either, here is a link to a fan translation I had been using as well, if anyone is so inclined
https://archive.org/details/manga_JoJos_Bizarre_Adventure_Jorge_Joestar
Tsukumojuku brings some elements from his book into the Jojo universe, such as the concept of living within a narrative, but the concept of God in this thought experiment is given the name Beyond. He also acts as significant plot advancement. But most of my WTF-ery is with all of the AU Jojo Part colliding happening.
I struggle to call the novel outright BAD, because I'm just left dumbfounded at what I had just finished reading, at a staggering 666 pages no less. I feel like I will take a lot of these concepts with me for some time to come. But like... I was not ready. I don't feel like a lot of people are. I would rather read Purple Haze Feedback or Dio Over Heaven any day over this, but at the same time I needed to read this and am glad I have? A weird journey, overall. Be prepared going in.

As with any of my light novel reviews of this series, I will begin with a location to read the English localization for yourself, given that at the time of writing this there is no official translation that can be purchased.
https://archive.org/details/manga_Jojos_Bizarre_Adventure_Over_Heaven
Also, it should be noted that there was somewhat of a pause for my reading of this book, as I began reading it as I would retread my way through the Stardust Crusaders manga (I had already seen the anime in its entirety), I discovered that a significant portion of this book is in reference to plot regarding as well as the main antagonist
...
of Part 6: Stone Ocean. Therefore, I would recommend (from experience) reading this as side-material after having already progressed through the entirety of the main Jojo canon, Parts 1-6.
As for the plot, it was nothing mind-blowing, but an interesting read. It is in a diary format, in very many short, digestible chapters. It is from the perspective of Dio who is using the notebook to jot down various thoughts. Some of it is his history with Jonathan, some of it is his discussions with Pucci about "Heaven", and along we way we make note of where the Stardust Crusaders are along their journey.
Personally, there are some aspects to "Heaven" and the creation of what would later become to Stand "Made in Heaven" that remain unclear to me in how Dio came to these conclusions, but it does provide drive and information to Pucci himself during the later arcs of Part 6 and expands on some of the ideas somewhat, so there is purpose to how it is brought up here.
As I very much blew through the latter two-thirds of this book, it may have been my easiest read of the series yet and my favorite light novel so far.
