First envision the classic image of wonderland. You might recall the Mad Hatter's crazy tea parties, the Queens obsession with head removal, Alice's curiosity, or all of the funny creatures such as the Doormouse, March hare, Jabberwock. All of these familiar characters become monsters, namely 'chains.' These chains can fight on their contractors behalf, in a twisted dark version of wonderland where everyone is trying to unravel a great and mysterious tragedy from years ago.
The contractors are all quite loveable, and they each have their own unique set of flaws and struggles, and all the while their chains mirror their personalities.

will say that the anime does not quite reach the same depth, and it is much darker. However if you have read the manga and would like to see the characters personalities in motion, it is more comedic than dark, and it seems to focus more on the filler scenes from the manga, tacking on a rather slapdash ending.
Even if you haven't read the manga, it is still a fun watch, but you get merely a taste of the chaos that the manga contains.
The soundtrack by Yuji Kajiura is phenomenal, and makes of for some of the flaws of Xebec.
The voice acting is tremendously well done, all the voices exactly as I would imagine them.
Overall an entertaining show!
