I did not read the manga, and so I watched the anime with no expectations. Having only what the anime presented to go on, I think it was a good story.
The vibe I get from those who read the manga is that there are parts of the story that are missing or changed. From the point of view of someone who doesn't know what is missing or different, I think it was a well told story that had a beginning and an end. I'm glad they didn't leave us hoping for a season 3 that wasn't coming.
