Okay, I'm going to attempt to write this review while holding back my salty tears. Angel Beats is basically a huge roller coaster of emotions all the way through. It effectively pulls at every single one of the viewers heart strings indiscriminately. It doesn't matter if you prefer action, romance, drama, supernatural, or anything else, this anime will find a way to satisfy you.
Story: Everything about this story is absolutely perfect. The beginning grabs the viewers attention when the main character (and everyone else in the cast) happens to be dead. There are plenty of sad or endearing moments with bountiful comedic relief to
...
back it all up.
Art: The artwork in this anime is top notch without a doubt. An exmple of the great artwork would be the opening sequence which has a clip of Angel playing the piano with some of the most accurate animations I've ever seen, and this isn't even an anime centering around music! All of the motion is extremely fluid, even in the intense action scenes that are sprinkled throughout the story.
Sound: The music.... it is absolutely beautiful. The music is always an important aspect of any anime since it is there to enhance the experience or atmosphere. Without music, a scene where a lot of combat is occurring would seem lifeless and dull. Angel Beats shows an exemplary understanding of when music should be played and what type of music it should be.
Character: The character design in Angel Beats is extraordinary. The rag tag group of dead students that occupy this high school in the afterlife fit perfectly with each other. Some are kind while others are cool. Then there are some which are in there purely for comedic relief (I love you so much T.K.).
Enjoyment: I enjoyed the hell out of this anime. Nuff said.
Overall I feel like Angel Beats has earned it's place as one of the most legendary animes of all time, atleast in my heart. I feel like after watching the last episode that I had just completed a chapter in my life and I was ready to move on just like Tachibana did... *Runs off, sobbing, into the distance*
