Yeah. Maybe. Also I was just trying to be an edgy cunt. But, the score is there for a reason. It's good, and I think thats undeniable. I understand if you don't like it tho. carry on with your day

As I'm currently watching One Piece, I've now seen the episode in which Sanji's so-called "chivalry" makes him almost get killed by that CP9-woman. And... why does no one but me in the whole world have a problem with this shit? He rather dies and rather has a friend of his die than defeating this woman so he can save his friend... because "he was raised to believe it's always wrong to hit a woman". That's not chivalry - that's to be a braindamaged moron.
I would never blame the way I was raised for having certain believes or mindsets. And to have the double standard to think it's always completely fine to hit a man, but never ever fine to hit a woman? That is just horrible. Sanji is nothing but a lowlife piece of shit to me... why the fuck does he have fans? And again, I can't get over that NO ONE BUT ME talks about this shit.

That's what bothers me - he doesn't do it intentionally... almost no one does, because people usually don't understand what some of us struggle with. And... I honestly doubt Oda ever will. Not unless he gets informed... but, he won't.

With all respect, it's irrelevant if you take it seriously or not. One Piece's target audience are young impressionable kids, easily manipulated and easily brainwashed. They will see these horrendous gender double standards in the show and assume that's how it's supposed to be. It makes it even worse that it's the most popular anime airing, and seemingly becoming the longest running anime ever eventually.
I find it kinda rude of you to say "at least we are gifted with the choice to watch or not to", as if to say I should either watch it and be content with everything or just shut up and stop watching it.

I still keep on watching it, and I will continue to do so - it's a guilty pleasure of mine, and I want to enjoy it for the things I like in it. But since it has these awful gender double standards in it, I can't help but to criticise it's bullshit. Because again - kids watch it.
And I know it manipulates kids and makes them have these conservative mindsets on gender roles - it did just that to me. One Piece is one of many reasons why it took me til I was 23 to realize I'm interested in guys. Think about that.

... you stopped talking to me after I responded to your question? I mean, I assumed you were just busy, but... it's been 8 days already. It's just that I'm curious how you feel about my view on these gender double standards.

I mean, furthermore, I just saw an episode where Zoro tells Enel in anger "She's a woman!" when he electrifies Nico Robin... because, that's only bad when it happens to a woman apparently, according to One Piece. :P

I am technically a male physically, but I identify myself as agender since I really don't care about genders in general.

And I think it's still bad in anime, at least for the most. Women are still to this day depicted as to suggest it's more okay for them to be weak and cry and be submissive and emotional than men, and you wouldn't see a female protagonist be overweight like Chouji in Naruto or unattractive like Usopp in One Piece.

As for sexual orientation, I think it's even worse. You'd never see a proper male gay romance especially outside of yaoi - all they depict homosexuality there is nothing but a mere fetish that can be dealt with. And even if there is a gay character in something, they're seen as something really rare and weird and unusual and almost alien-like... especially in Gurren Lagann with Leeron Littner. Sure, he is depicted as a friend of the main characters... but, they make him look like a very inhuman alien-like ugly being, and acting creepy and weird and trying to hit on the straight male characters even though they tell him to stop.

Meanwhile in Gurren Lagann, I've seen the male main characters are depicted as sexy and attractive... and of course, heterosexual. Same goes for One Piece - look at the transvestites there, they are the only gay guys existing in One Piece... and they all look like ugly hairy clowns. Except when they are genderswapped... they they for some reason become attractive. Because... apparently, effeminate girly males aren't allowed to look attractive according to Eiichiro Oda, it seems like.

Well... as long as One Piece as a story doesn't try to make us think Sanji's ridiculous gender double standards is something to support, that's fine. The problem is, they are keeping it unrealistically ambigious. In real life, if you meet literally hundreds of people... you WILL come across one or two having a problem with you treating women like Gods and men like rotten poop.

I'd have no complaints if he just got properly confronted by it one single freakin' time, you know? XP lol

... I get the feeling you don't care much for LGBT-representation? Because a person CAN be offended by a portrayal of something without being it themselves. I do that all the time for female characters for instance.

Now, please think about this... heterosexual guys have in One Piece an arrange of all characters - some crazy and wacky and cartoony and overly exaggerated, but some pretty cool badasses that are more attractive and appealing. Zoro, Smoker, Crocodile, Kuro, etcetera. Why must EVERY SINGLE LGBT or potential LGBT character of One Piece be turned into a joke? I mean... no chance in hell Eiichiro Oda would depict one like Haku in Naruto. Well, unless it's a female... which, again, is the problem - he's a prick filled with gender double standards. Even IF Oda would make a character like Haku, he'd design him to look ugly and hairy.

Don't get me wrong, I fully truly think you have the creative freedom to do whatever you want with your own work... but when it's on-going for such a ridiculously long time as One Piece, with basically thousands upon thousands of new characters? I have to start to question their selective portrayals of things.

Well, it's not so much with Sanji having "quirks" as I think he is a... really, REALLY horrible person. I made a topic about it here: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1432783

And, in general, it feels like One Piece has something against guys being anything at all like girls... and, if they are, they are depicted as ugly flamboyant clowns. :(

Cool, cool. ^^ And okay, I see. Well... I try my hardest to do that too. But... it really disturbs me with the show's view on gender roles (particularly for the men, not just the women, since the show keeps on and on suggesting only women are allowed to be weak while men must do everything they can to be strong and "manly") and it's view on LGBT-related stuff.
Not to mention, Sanji... I really can't stand him. XP

Thanks for being the only rational and respectful commenter to my One Piece post. To be frank, I don't wish to try to discuss with any of the other ones in the thread... I just feel like they're being complete douchebags anyway. You on the other hand, I wouldn't mind discussing stuff further with. ^_^'
