Both start off following the monster of the week formula before switching to moving towards a character study route.Both series pull this off quite well in my opinion especially RahXephon.

If you liked Kenpuu Denki Berserk add

...then you might like Gungrave add

Similar in the sense that one of the main drives of the both series is the deteriorating friendship of two friends. Both are great in their own way,but in my opinion Gungrave has the better ending.
