It's a generic fantasy anime, but it doesn't deserve the hate it gets. The plot and characters aren't exactly anything unique nor are they memorable, but simplicity doesn't mean it's inherently bad or boring.
It was a quick yet captivating watch. the story was well rounded, and the pacing was solid. It's unfortunate the ending is a cliffhanger that will likely never be resolved due to the show's poor performance.
It's important to note that this show is an adaptation from a video game of the same name. I cannot personally attest to the faithfulness of the adaptation since I've never played the game.

Ignoring the constant fan service... which seems to be more relevant than the plot or character development, It's just a generic action anime. That wouldn't be a bad thing, necessarily, if it weren't for the aforementioned problem of fanservice being the primary focus of this show.
If that's all one is looking for than they will likely enjoy it, but if you're looking for a good story, this isn't it. I will say some of the fight scenes were good, but all the other flaws make those easy to overlook. It's a good concept plagued by slow pacing, a common issue with some of the older animes. The story overall is very interesting and the art for the action scenes are good, but sometimes the series tends to drag on more than necessary. Only one of the four arcs did not seem to have that issue.
Not a bad watch for someone that is into Mecha, as this series is one of the godfathers of the genre, but not a series for those that don't have the patience for slow burn shows. For a fast-paced story within this universe, I highly recommend the OVA "Armor ... |
