Both of these series focus on the problem of dealing with a friend's death. Although they are paced differently and have their own unique stories, the vibe that they give off is very similar. In both we find a group of friends who has to overcome a great loss, touching the topics of unchangeable past and awaiting future. Characters in these two series come to a realization of their past mistakes/regrets and either try to literally change them or at least their possible outcome. They include a few life lessons such as avoiding clinging to one's past, possible consequences of the contrary and, as we would expect in most anime - the power of friendship (though not the cliché type which may discourage a potential spectator). They both talk about cherishing a friendship; whether it be present or a long-gone one. I recommend you'd give one of them a try if you already liked the other.

Although Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu is a Japanese anime unlike Mo Dao Zu Shi being Chinese, they both have a similar artstyle (with MDZS definitely being superior with its beautiful art while still keeping the resemblance), both stories happen in the past, talk about Samurais, show off mysterious creatures filled with negative energy and people fighting against them. The characters are also pretty comparable at some points, most of them being long-haired man wearing Chinese-ish clothing, yielding their swords and fighting evil. In my opinion these two anime series give off a very similar vibe, both the story and the overall look.
