Let me start off by saying this anime hits home extremely hard to me and I'm sure it's targeted audience as well, there is some bias towards it, but lets be honest - this anime is just awesomely awesome.
Story is by far deserving of the Outstanding rating...in fact, it completely surpasses it. Watching this anime for the first time had me at the edge of my seat binge watching the next episode because every previous one ended with such a satisfying cliffhanger. Philosophy and the essence of how trial and error and "practice makes perfect" are prevalent through the story - never

giving up no matter how grim the circumstances look, no matter who's by your side, because you have yourself and that's all you need.
For being 1997, the animation is very well done, explosions, rain, ambiance and other smaller details/effects are well thought out and do not look rushed or meshed together. It's clean, smooth, and to me it's very eye appealing, the color palettes are very soothing in this anime. Sound is once again great for being out of 1997 in my opinion, specifically the EPIC soundtrack. At times of great intense feels (which this anime has A LOT of), this soundtrack is literally the final water gate to those tear ducts if you're not sobbing already.
Character development is what really stands out here for me on this anime. You watch as guts transforms from a scared alone boy into a beast-mode monster! Storytelling of his past and background and how it affected his fate is what makes this anime so awesome. You really start feeling for the misfortune events you come across -- and the fortunate ones! Don't get me wrong, there's gloom in this anime, but that's just what makes the bloomy happiness that much greater in contrast.
I cri evrytiem. Watch this anime now if you haven't already. 11/10. Harambe approves.
