Plot: Telling the plot of Summer Time Render without doing Spoiler is impossible. The story centers on the protagonist Ajiro Shinpei who travels to his home island because his childhood best friend Ushio Kofune died in an accident to save a little girl who was drowning. But then it turns out that she was actually killed by strangulation. So Shinpei decided to shed light on the case of his best friend decides to find the culprit. From here on everything that happens is pure madness. Two factors come into play: the supernatural and time travel. Practically the protagonist at the end of the first episode

is killed by a shadow (precisely the shadow of Ushio's sister, Mio Kofune) and finds himself again at the beginning of the day. Every time the protagonist dies he goes back in time! The difficulty lies in the fact that he does not always go back in time at the same moment but the more time travel you do, the more the starting position is ahead in time compared to the previous one. This creates a crazy dynamic that keeps you in suspense for the duration of the series. I haven't felt emotions like this since I saw the Attack of the Giants! The characteristic of making this Anime like a video game where every time the protagonist dies he restarts from the "Check Point" is brilliant. Another element, less important however, is the inclusion of quite a few "fan service" moments. I must say that I am very satisfied with this part and it is inserted in the moments of pause between one action scene and another, almost to make you catch your breath. Small nod on the ending: I didn't like it so much, that is, I would have liked the consequences of the story to remain and therefore the dead not "resurrected". It could have been done much better in the final, but clearly this does not affect the final grade much.
Score: 10- (“-“ for the ending)
Technical Section: Before Summer Time Render by Studio OLM I had only seen Odd Taxi, and I really liked the work there. But in this Anime they managed to outdo themselves. The animations in the action scenes and especially in the various fights were truly sensational. Then the attention to detail given by this study was already seen from the beginning when particular attention was paid to the movement of the hair. Very often this note is underestimated, but an attention to more marginal details are very often the ones that make me appreciate the work done by the animators even more. Some scenes were also the perfect transposition of the Manga plates, also giving great dignity to the original product. As for the music, starting from the Opening and Ending, they are really well done, and stay in your head. Even the OSTs are exceptional and help you get even more into the mood of the narrative, filling the viewer with anxiety and concern, in the Thriller moments and loading him with dynamic music in the action scenes.
Score: 10
Characters: The Cast is quite basic: Shinpei, physically, is the copy of Eren Jaeger (And in my opinion the scene of him queuing in the mirror is a clear reference). Haine is the classic Kawaii anime child, Karakiri reminds me so much of Taro Sakamoto (muscular form) from “Sakamoto Days”, Ushio is the classic blonde waifu and Mio looks like Nadia from Nadia of the Azure stone. In short, the cast is not the best. As for the various relationships between the characters, the protagonist Ushio and Mio are the classic love triangle, where Mio wants Shinpei, but the latter wants Ushio who reciprocates the feelings. The friendship between Tokiko and Mio is simple and sketchy, as is Sou's love for Mio herself. Even the characterization of the characters is something we have already seen: Shinpei the depressed protagonist, Ushio the female co-protagonist full of energy, and Mio the shy girl, Hizuru the busty to be sexualized and Nezu the fisherman who did the military and who is now retired. Despite this, the ideal of the antagonist is perfect in my opinion. His goal is to live forever and for 300 years he has been successful, but since the person that Haine, or the one who made his long life possible, is about to leave this world, to return to hers, opts for the destruction of the world. It's very interesting because Shide is a character who has always been interested in human beings and what happens in the world and if he can't see it anymore, because he's dying, then he goes away with the awareness that nothing is lost since everything will end. Haine on the other hand simply wanted to go home to her own world and to do so she would have to regain all of her lost power by eating humans.
Score: 7
Theme: Brief mention of an interesting issue in my opinion. The last episode mentions a novel "The Strange Life of Ivan Osovski" by Ouspensky. It tells about Ivan Osokin's unsuccessful struggle to correct his mistakes of him when given the chance to relive his past. The two stories are very similar and both take up the concept of "Time". The various loops that the protagonists make serve to correct their mistakes in the course of past events. Furthermore, Shide also has the goal of living forever, thus escaping the main enemy for men. Even Ushio's death is something that at the beginning - and hopefully at the end too - meant the end of the friendship with Shinpei. In short, in my opinion this Anime has also managed to express this concept well where our greatest enemy is "Time" and we must always make good use of it, never wasting it, also because we will never have a chance to correct our past.
Score: 8
Conclusions: In the end I come out of this experience tried, above all because it kept me anxious from start to finish, thanks to a perfect narration of the events, but also for a "roses and flowers" ending that left me a little disappointed . Despite this, I currently consider Summer Time Render one of the best anime I've ever seen.
Final Score: 10-

"The supreme lord of garbage"
There are so many horrible things about this show, but let's analyze them all in detail. The plot: a boy who is passionate about video games, without a social life and with a tiring job that does not pay him enough, gets trapped inside his favorite video game. A story that is repeated practically in all the "Isekai". I do not consider this a big problem, since he is practically a narrative “topos” typical of these series. But trying to create a product with a slightly more original story was obviously not the author's intention. And it doesn't change over the course ... |
