Oh that sucks, good that they all recovered though, have they been vaccinated yet?

Oh that sucks, mind if I ask what sort of health issues, or is that too personal?

Aoi Bungaku is pretty great yeah, hope you enjoy the rest too.

I put anime on hold, also some health issues, and I recently started to read manga.

Thank you, and no problem. How have you been?

I definitely don't find it extremely upsetting or anything, just uncomfortable. The only season that went even a little overboard for me was Nise if only because it was much more prominent than in any other season. If I recall correctly Nise was never originally supposed to be published so the author was free to go all out in that regard. I sort of felt like the story and characters suffered a little as a result, not that I necessarily think the season is bad.

I don't go out to see films very often either. I went with friends to see Joker, which I quite liked, then went with them again to see the live action Sonic film for a laugh which was whatever. Other than that I caught some Marvel movies on occasion. I've honestly not seen many films overall, but if I were going to get into watching some I'd probably start by watching the classics from home rather than go out to catch new releases in theatres.

The psychological shows are amazing, the good ones tend to be my favorite anime, ones that tackle mental health in a realistic way drag me in a lot like Aoi Bungaku, or Noragami for example, although that is not a psychological it portrays Yukine really well, and in season 2 Yato. Yeah true, it is all pretty good, even the trash can be good if you completely turn off your brain.

Well right now I am watching more mediocre stuff like Fire Force, and Durarara!! and I cannot really think of anything off of the top of my head except for maybe the shows I mentioned earlier: Aoi Bungaku which I think I already recommended, and Noragami, which gets a lot better in Aragoto.

Yeah it was great, really too bad they fucked it up with the later seasons, apparently they have a 3rd season coming now, sadly. But I did hear that Netflix was thinking of getting the dude from Castlevania to remake Berserk, which could be great as Castlevania was a really good show. I finished Claymore and it got pretty good in the end, I also watched Vinland Saga, and oh man is it great, it felt like a long prologue but I absolutely loved it, not super similar to Berserk as in the protagonist does not have a 100 foot sword, and is 30 feet tall, but I can see some similarities. I heard a bit about Vagabond, if you get to it before me tell me how it goes.

No problem, I'm not on much now either anyways.

It's just one thing that irks me about the whole series and obviously the shinobu arc was partially a conclusion to this aspect of the show. The banter between Araragi and younger characters sometimes made me uncomfortable depending on how far they pushed it, and the arc dealing with his relationship with the three young characters just wasn't for me.

It's unfortunate to hear that you think the series dips after Hana but I sort of expected that I'd personally begin to enjoy it less. I took a break from the series because I knew the next season would focus on Yotsugi. Sure, Ougi is intriguing and all, but from what I've seen I still prefer the original cast over them.

I'm definitely not a Star Wars fan, I haven't watched the original trilogy in a long while but I'm fine with them. I haven't even seen the sequel trilogy myself but listening to people talk about how garbage they are makes for good background noise, so I am familiar with quite a lot of the criticisms. In the case of The Force Awakens, it definitely goes beyond being a re-hash. Overall from what I've heard I'd say all three are considered to have poorly written characters as well as plot hole ridden scripts and barely realised themes.

Each season definitely has its own atmosphere. Second Season felt the most grand considering it really wrapped up each character in a meaningful way.

The two arcs you highlighted are my favourites from the season and possibly the entire series from what I've seen of it. Tsubasa Tiger was a powerful conclusion to Hanekawa, and I also loved the interactions between Senjougahara and Kaiki considering that they are my two favourite characters and play off of each other very well. I guess my main problem with second season is that the other three arcs aren't as solid as the opener and closer in my opinion, even if they are still good. The Shinobu arc in particular heavily contained most of the elements I am somewhat uncomfortable with when it comes to the series as a whole, and personally I find Yotsugi to be a lot weaker than the original set of characters in both design and personality.

Hanamonogatari falls in line mostly with Hanekawa and Senjougahara's arcs, focuses on one of my favourite characters, and feels like a strong middle ground between the styles of Bake and Second Season so I guess it makes sense that it would stand out as a highlight to me. I should probably get around to watching the final arc seasons at some point. From what I've seen my ranking would be Bake > Hana > SS > Kizu > Nise.

I would like to get into tlou at some point. I've heard nothing but good things of the first game in terms of characters and story. Beyond the narrative I have heard quite a few criticisms aimed at the second game mechanically also. It is similar to the Star Wars sequels in how much conversation it has sparked on YouTube about objective quality in art. Eventually I'll play it and see for myself.

Oh yeah definitely is hard, especially when I have watched a lot of the top shows. I have seen a lot of trash too though. 117 days is around 2800 hours, which is an insane amount honestly, I don't think I have that much time put into any games except maybe COD Ghosts, and AC Black Flag
Oh definitely watch it, it is amazing, I really loved it, can't say enough how much I enjoyed it lol.
Berserk was amazing, too bad the newer shows are apparently horrible though.

Well if you liked Berserk, I am currently watching Claymore which is very similar, not as good but still pretty good. Goblin Slayer is also a good one, and my other friends recommend Vinland Saga because its similar to Berserk as well.
I'll tell you when I watch something I really enjoyed then. What genres do you prefer?
Evan_Gorgon Nov 18, 2020 1:05 PM
I can imagine him checking it out in the future. He doesn't like to start multiple season shows and leave them hanging. I do really like the second season but personally I prefer the first season and Hanamonogatari.

I've been meaning to get around to the first Last of Us so I could watch the conversation surrounding the second game unfold, but that has died down a bit.
Meraki1 Nov 16, 2020 10:48 PM
Yeah same, no clue why they do it. Why add someone as a friend to just not talk to them.

Thank you, it changes a lot by the way, the only shows that have been on there for a while are Aoi Bungaku, and Berserk.
I haven't seen too many on your favorites list, but I heard a lot of good from them all.
Meraki1 Nov 16, 2020 4:04 PM
Thanks for accepting the fr, nice to meet you.

Well, he did respond emotionally to Misato's final scene, but it brought up something very personal to him which likely struck a chord.

I do agree that the execution is what really makes a show worthwhile at the end of the day. And though it's true that you should never belittle someone for enjoying a piece of fiction that did nothing for you personally, it can be annoying in a discussion when someone uses the idea themes alone to deflect criticism without taking into account the actual execution of said themes or even just the writing beyond themes, which should hold up before anything else in my opinion.

I'd be lying if I said my life changed in any meaningful way after watching NGE, but I love the characters and I think the audiovisuals and story/messages are great.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
