I don't normally like stories that have to do with time travel. There's often plot holes, gimmicks, inconsistencies or just a clunky feeling that can pull you out of the story. This is one that handles it well, though. This is also a great anime if you love symbolism because it's chock full. The mystery aspect is interesting but not terribly difficult to figure out. Still, even having a good idea getting into the reveal, the story telling is done well enough that the enjoyment keeps you excited.

There are moments that can be a little tough to get through. The subject matter is often heavy ... and I know I experienced a real fear for the characters. The very ending would have benefited from having more time, I think this could easily have been a 13 episode show instead of 12, but things do wrap up well enough.

Overall, if you like light horror, mystery and a moving plot, this is a great choice.

It would have been a shame if an anime about people who tell stories fell short in plot and narrative. Luckily, I don't believe this one did. From start to finish I was captivated by the story, even as it changes, evolves and crescendos. There's a lot of charm and heart to it without feeling too contrived. The characters were amazingly well developed and relate-able.

Writing this as someone who is probably older than most anime-viewers, I feel like this hits on some ideas and concepts that, while they won't be alien to younger viewers, likely rings true to an older crowd. Regrets, old loves, ... lost ambition and more really flesh this out to make for such a true tale of human nature.

There may be points where this show is a little slow in getting to the point. And there are times when the animation goes from magnificent to pretty good. It's beautiful and moving when it needs to be. This isn't an anime if you like fast-paced action or gimmicks. But if you're looking for a heartfelt story and strong characters, this is it.

Do you enjoy people looking mad all the time? Fierce competition over a woman who should be strong and outspoken (because she is in everything else) but just fully becomes submissive when placed near men? Like basketball but not too much? This may be the anime for you, but it wasn't for me.

Really, the reason I'm dropping this manga at chapter 24 is because I just don't like any of the characters. I don't care about them. I'm tired of people looking angry and upset all the time. I don't see how a healthy relationship can develop with so many people who don't seem ... to respect or trust the people around them. All of which are things I can deal with in mangas where there are other redeemable qualities. I just don't see enough here to bother continuing.

This is a great example of how to surprise your viewers in a way that doesn't ruin their expectations. Rokka no Yuusha was a fun ride from beginning to end and it's got incredible value in rewatching it.

For an anime that covered a mere one volume of its manga in the full season, this show manages to just absolutely cram action and events into each episode. There's not a lot of predictability here and I was usually left very curious about where the plot would go next at the end of each episode. You're put on a tight rope from the start and it ... never slacks or loses that tension right up to the end. Mystery, suspense and drama abound in a way that leaves you excited instead of worn out.

I rated art lower because the cgi monsters and some animation issues were often noticeable enough to distract from what was going on.

The characters are unique, don't depend on known archetypes too much, and feel like they have agency and ambition of their own. I know I went through times of disliking and loving most of them which helped them feel fleshed out and genuine.

If you like sweet stories and happy people, you'll probably like this. If you like some meat to your animes or something that challenges what you hold to be true, this will not succeed. Watching Ore Monogatari is like someone taking a soft, blow-up hammer and hitting you over the head with it while feeding you cake and telling you "Don't judge people by looks, trust the people you care about and work hard to be your best self"

It's not a bad message by any means and there are worse things in the world than a show that gives off an aura of sweetness and ... happiness. That's about where it stops, though.

I don't really know why I didn't seem to be as captivated as others were by this anime. It's nice to see a zombie show that isn't just entirely rolling in despair and horror but predictable plot twists, gimmicky devices and being over-hyped left me feeling like it was trying too hard to be different and overly emotional.

You get a pretty good sense of what you're in for after the first episode which lleaves off with a good amount of tension and excitement but it feels like that fell short in the following episodes as we see more of the same without any real forward ... momentum. A good chunk of the drama and conflict comes from flashbacks that explain how we got to the current events but serve more to make future plot twists predictable. It's not bad, it's actually pretty enjoyable but I think there was room for so much more.

Sometimes the art felt like it relied too heavily on darkened filters and the contrast between cute and dark to force emotion. However, there were some pretty incredible things thrown in with subtle changes to the openings and endings each week as well as small, hidden gems tucked away into scenes that made the art interesting in it's own way.

The characters do grow, they do face hardship and they do have to overcome something in themselves. I'm likely in the minority here but, even with that, I didn't find them enjoyable. It felt like they were too stereotypical to me and I didn't really find myself worrying about what could possibly happen to any of them.

I am glad I caught this and I think it's likely one of the only zombie shows I'll watch all the way through. It's a good anime and it's worth picking up. I just wish they would trade in some of the gimmicks for a little more polish.

I'm not entirely sure why I watched this. This anime won't wow you, it won't impress you and it won't leave you feeling satisfied in the end. But, somehow, each week I was fine with sitting down and devoting however many minutes to watching it.

To me, the biggest success of Aoharu x Kikanjuu is its ability to not drive people away from it even though it's mediocre as all get out.

The story moves around too much. Are we seeing a romance? Is this a coming of age? Revenge story? A story about the trials of friendship? You don't really ever know the aim of ... the plot and you keep expecting it to lead somewhere only to have it pull in another direction. Carrots are put on sticks leading you to believe some revelations are coming only to have the carrot pulled away and get a revelation that was only minorly hinted at and doesn't really fall in line with what you'd been told to that point.

Also, YOU CAN'T DUEL-WIELD THOSE SHOTGUNS!

The characters are just so flat. They become archetypes of themselves almost immediately and only one of them ever really makes any strides towards growth. They're the sort of insipid people you want to scream at because almost all of them make poor decisions or fail to communicate with the others.

The art was one of the better parts of the anime. Even if the character style wasn't the most beautiful thing ever, it was at least a nice thing to look at.

This is one of my favorite mangas and the anime adaptation has done a wonderful job with it. It's hard to know if my rating or review is overly biased but, if it is, that's only because I've been won over by these characters from quite a long while ago.

I appreciate the fact that the story is willing to take older, tried and true elements and work with them in a way that shows a uniqueness and creativity. I think people sometimes miss the actual tie-ins with the old fairy tale Snow White but I feel like recognizing that helps to appreciate the meld of ... Eastern and Western sensibilities. We see the fairy tale elements of a young girl facing powerful nobility and having to take refuge in the woods. We have the prince charming. We even have the poisoned apples. Some of the common shoujo tropes make appearances throughout and anyone with familiarity will spot them weaving through. Not making any changes would have resulted in something predictable and uninteresting and over-compensating and just fully reinventing the wheel here would have been too much. This anime addresses these plot points and story arcs with grace and a clear direction. The one fault that could possibly hold water is how long it really takes to really get to something meaty.

The art was done incredibly well. Attention to detail was spot-on, beautiful backgrounds with intricate work colored every scene, animations were smooth and the lighting was just absolutely stunning.

The characters are almost too good. I do actually mean that as a slight criticism. A little too perfect, even in their shortcomings, and a little too unrealistic. But, despite that, they're easy to fall in love with. Our main character takes a while to flesh out as she comes across a little too two dimensional in the beginning and it's not until we see her face difficulties within herself that she really begins to feel real. The male lead and side characters are easy to love almost from the get-go and the interactions between the group show a very healthy and wonderful dynamic that helps to keep the story propped up well.

Overall, this anime may not be for everyone. If you want a lot of action or high levels of drama you won't find it here. This isn't an anime to get your adrenaline pumping or keep you in suspense. This is, however, a very sweet story with solid characters. It's good for a bolstering of the heart.

Wakako-zake knows what it is. It knows it's a short look into one woman's enjoyment of food, drink, and pairings.

There's not a lot to say about this anime. I actually did really enjoy it and looked forward to it each week. Each episode promised to be an insightful look into food culture done in a calming and reflective manner and it succeeded very well. No drama, relatable main character, and succinct writing made this a success. It also usually made me hungry.

I'm a woman. I read and watch shoujo. I enjoy base-level entertainment when I'm in the mood for a guilty pleasure. But even with all that in mind, this anime falls flat.

It's an interesting concept and I think it could have been done much better. They did pick the right format (very short episodes) and some of the guys should have been enjoyable just based on set-up.

One of the big problems seems like, to me, the people who did this don't get women. Or they don't get why women should like the particular guys. They also don't seem to know what their aim is. ... The guys often broke character which tended to be funny but didn't manage to pull off being funny and also being titillating. Cheap romantic thrills aren't quite necessary if they had instead made the guys and situations at least comforting and inviting but often the guys were creeps.

The opening theme was damn catchy though and those still shots in the Opening are probably what kept me bothering each week.
