10/10 - Peak Fiction: The entire way through experiencing it is a seamless, fantastic experience with there being virtually no moments or stretches that remove me from the story while being presented the best possible way in the medium it is created in. It also must stand on its own and outside materials (Like if an anime I'm evaluating has a LN equivalent) are not needed in order to fill in the wholes that create what I perceive to be problems in the story. The characters and theme work also must have depth and nuance while also having the exploration be natural and flow, the plot must be consistently interesting and engaging, the setting must also play its part masterfully if the story demands a role from it. Essentially, every single element that the fictional work features (narrative elements and they're presentation) has to be firing on all cylinders in order to receive this score. If I give something this score, it is one of my favorite fictional works of all time.
9/10 - Masterpiece: Some flaws that do hamper enjoyment/reflection from time to time and there are sometimes stretches in the story that less/not engaging or interesting, but overall all, it is a masterful work of excellent quality. Top of the line characters, plots, and themes that are presented in/near equally as masterful a manner within the medium the work is presented in.
8/10 - Great: Some flaws are present as well as aspects of the story that aren't the greatest (whether that be a dull plot point or two, some weird character moments, or a theme that was communicated in a way that removed me from the story) but all in all, a solid work that has characters that range from okay to greatest of all time, an engaging plot, and ideas are presented and executed competently and powerfully.
7/10 - Good: Flaws are present throughout the work, but they aren't completely debilitating, and the work has strengths that make it worth experiencing, whether that be a solid cast, a good plot, an interesting theme or two that is explored competently, or great presentation. A work could also get this score if it simply isn't engaging or interesting to me, but I still recognize the technical merit of the work.
6/10 - Above Average: An overall middle of the road/forgettable work that would be mid if not for the fact that has a few interesting good aspects to it that somewhat stand out. The good is usually what sticks in my head after experiencing it.
5/10 - Average: The definition of Mid. Nothing stories that I usually forget that I have experienced within a few days after watching it. Nothing in the story is executed particularly terribly, but nothing about it is particularly good per say. It has all the functions of a narrative (Plot, Setting, Character, Theme, etc), but none of it lands in any way.
4/10 - Below Average: An overall middle of the road/forgettable work that would be mid if not for the fact that has a few debilitating bad aspects to it that somewhat stand out. The bad is usually what sticks in my head after experiencing it.
3/10 - Bad: These are works where many elements of the story are actively bad. Works of this ilk features most of the following: baffling character writing, themes that are questionable or executed in a hamfisted preachy way, a plot that doesn't make sense or is so forced that you feel the creator's' hand pushing everything forward, a method of presentation that is not effective, and more. There are a few narrative elements to the story that are not bad, but the prevailing sentiment after finishing a work of this score was that it was bad.
2/10 - Terrible: Works of this score are where none of the narrative elements in the story work, but there are 1 or 2 redeeming/non-debilitating qualities that are tied to presentational/directional elements. An example would be if the music or the voice acting in an anime is either average, not actively bad, or even good/great, but none of the anime's narrative elements work.
1/10 - Abysmal: Absolutely nothing good about this work exists. All the story elements are terrible with virtually no redeeming qualities. In addition to every story element being bad, works of this score would have to have equally or nearly terrible presentational in every way: prose, voice acting, music, sfx, all of it would have to be ineffective and awful. Essentially, if every single thing that could be bad about a single fictional work is present in said work, it earns this score.
