The anime's are both about people that change to an monster which they are controlling for a part. the main characters have something attached to them which makes them monsters but actually both the main characters of the anime's are good people that destroy their own kind of 'monsters' to make the world better or protect others

The weird reason i watched both of those series is because they have an amazingly good work of art which already takes you into some enjoyment besides the good story's

Yes indeed death note is an serie that is basicly completely different from layton but they both have something in common. The main genre in both anime's are mystery. Death note is about solving crime mystery's and layton also solves mystery's from certain people that commit crimes but its just showed more softly then death note. If you watch layton for the mystery part u should defenititely take a look at the genious minds of the characters from death note that are consentrating about escaping from the genious detective and seeing the genious detective trying to stop the killer.

The anime's start with characters getting into an other world which both are about gaming. No game no life takes you to an world full of PvP games while swort art online takes you into an more siriously fighting game world.

Both have this great tension around dying or surviving from death and both are from the same makers. Both series always have a twist to their 'games' that has to do with escaping from death or really die.

Both school series that are a more to the ecchi love side. Short anime's with the same kind of style.

...then you might like Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso add

If you really are into music anime you should definitely watch Shigatsu wa kimi no Uso after White ablum two. Both the anime's have piano in them but Shigatsu wa kimi no Uso goes deeper into the piano part and white album 2 also does many other instruments ( Shigatsu wa kimi no Uso also has violin). The romance in this anime is similar to Shigatsu wa kimi no Uso which u can see when you watch it yourself ;)
