This isn't so much a special as much as it is the true final Episode of Kill La Kill. in much the same way as The Lord of the Rings doesn't end after the ring is destroyed, but after the hobbits save the shire from Saruman, this episode is the one that wraps up all the loose ends. It shows the end of Honouji Academy, and everyone moving on with their lives afterwards. Truly, this is the episode that will give you closure on almost all of the characters. Kill La Kill is a 25 Episode anime, but you have to search out the 25th

episode if you really want to see it all

Disclaimer: I've only seen the anime, never read the source material. But honestly, after watching the anime I don't know why I'd want to.
Right out of the gate the viewer is bashed over the with generic material: We meet our protagonist: some otaku loser who everybody thinks is gross and lame, and like almost every other high school anime, he's running late for school. He gets to the shoe lockers and the only other person that was late that day was the girl with a reputation of being easy. Their punishment? clean leaves out of the pool after school. Cut to them cleaning leaves and
...
they get in an argument because the guy thinks the girl called him gross, which in his mind is pretty rich coming from the girl who's supposedly the school bike, when in reality she said wearing bangs over her face would make her feel gross. They argue some more and then they fall in the pool. Somehow they get it into their heads that they like each other, which in reality its just that shes the first girl who wasn't an ass to him and he's the first guy who didn't expect her to sleep with him. All in all, I've seen worst reasons to date someone, but it doesn't stop there! She then reveals that she's moving away at the end of the year!
So right off the bat, we've got our cookie cutter, bland characters established, a contrived plot to force the supposed romance to blossom, and the rest of the story sets itself up. Now, in case you're wondering, "hey, why is he describing the first episode in so much detail?", it's because this is literally the highest point in the entire show, its all down hill from here. It's just one manufactured point of drama after another, they get in arguments and make up. It's about the most generic romance anime I've ever seen.
Now, before I get into my other grievances with the show, lets talk about the art and music:
The art and animation is pretty bland, no snappy art changes to lighten the mood, no real design to the characters at all. Every character is thin and boxy, very two dimensional, which is pretty bad when you're characters are already tapped in a 2D plane to begin with. there's no beauty to the art, it's just there, it exists, and nothing more, there's just nothing to comment on because its so bland.
The music is forgettable, and that's putting it nicely. background music exists in this show, but there's nothing memorable about it. In fact, the most memorable part of the music in this anime is the OP, and that's because it drags on for what feels like an eternity, almost as if they put animation to the entire studio released song. I'm serious, this OP will put you to sleep if you let it.
Now lets talk about my continued grievances with this awful show. First, lets talk about hikari's best friend, who's a borderline furry. Guy just decides that in order to stand out more than he already does by being friends with the super otaku who has no other friends, that he's gonna start wearing cat ears every single day, so he can let his true self shine through more.
then there's how hikari just goes full on white knight over iroha, the female lead. I gave it a pass the first time it happened, since they were "dating", but it just keeps going, as if she's just using him so other guys will leave her alone.
Hikari is somehow able to do almost anything perfectly, "when he puts his mind to it", as if thats a good enough excuse to try and make the character redeemable and not a borderline NEET whose only good quality is having never missed a day of school. He's also unhealthy obsessed with a specific magical girl anime character, to the point of watching old episodes nightly and modeling a figure of Iroha after her.
All in all, I can't tell you enough to just not watch this at all. Looking back, it's as if some neckbeard incel thought up a situation that would make some perceived "thot" see this as a worthwhile mate and accept him as he is, while simultaneously changing her to fit his worldview, and then they decided to make an anime out of it. Which is absolutely insane. Hikari isn't even a likeable character like other hardcore antisocial and socially awkward otakus, like tomoko from watamote. She at least tried to change and better herself. Hikari thinks everyone else needs to change to accept him, and thats just not a sympathetic character trait in any show.
DO NOT watch this unless you are some neckbearded, basement dwelling, fedora tipping, THOT shaming, white knighting, nice guy Incel, because that appears to be the target audience. Its just a bad show, and somehow this dumpster fire is getting a second season.

I'll put the TL;DR at the top: This is a great addition to the regular series, and I think it wraps up a couple of the subplots quite nicely. Even though the episodes are only three minutes long, its good for a little pick me up, or you can binge them all together. Like other reviews say, its basically one episode split into six parts, but I think that format works terrifically for these specials.
The specials take on the classic romance anime trope: the beach episode. Now if you've seen the regular series, you know that nothing will go the way you think it
...
will! So if you've seen or are currently watching the series, you should definitely watch these shorts too! Its a great way to wrap up the story, kinda like a nice dessert after a fine meal. I wish I could grow a third hand so that I could give this entire series not two, but THREE thumbs up!

I'll start off by saying this much: I'm an absolute sap when it comes to romance shows. Often times, when it comes to the end of a great romance anime, I've become so invested that I feel a wave of depression washing over me, and I find myself in a haze, wondering what happens to the characters next, how they go on living their lives, if it truly is a happy ever after.
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is one of the best romance animes I've ever seen, but I have none of the feelings I usually get from a romance anime! Don't get me wrong, I'm
...
still sad that its over, but I can tell that I can go back and rewatch the series without the fear of being thrown into a depression again.
Don't get me wrong, there's weight to the characters and their feelings, which sit just below the surface, and you can tell that each of the characters feel something for the others too. But unlike the trappings of other romances, Its not a constant inner monologue of the protaganists mulling over their feelings, becoming increasingly anxious about their crush, and eventually bursting at the seems to tell them, only to find they liked each other all along. The emotions are obvious, but its not like the characters feel they can only ever be with their crush and nobody else.
In my opinion, the OP and ED are terrific, although it seems the general consensus is that you'll love it or hate it. Personally I love it. Its light, fun, catchy, and I think they both reflect the mood of the show quite well. As someone who only got back into anime in the past couple years, stumbling upon this anime in our current world of "Anime OP Bangers" (thanks for making that a term Gigguk), has been a breath of fresh air in the music department. The soundtrack, while not phenomenal, sets the mood.
The art direction, in my opinion, is fantastic. Personally, I love it when the animation jumps from beautiful and skillful to simplistic to show the mood of the characters. The animation overall is amazing, although not ground breaking or breath taking. The art sometimes triggers the humor of the show.
Overall, I can't recommend this anime enough to anyone who likes romance and slice of life shows. The humor is spot on, the characters and character development is astounding, the story is great at grabbing your attention and holding it, and the art and music are great. Even if its just something to watch between your other anime, pick this. YOU NEED TO WATCH THIS ANIME!!!!!!

This is my first time writing a review, so I hope this can be helpful for at least one person.
To be completely fair, I am very aware that I probably have a dissident opinion regarding this anime. However, I think the other reviews paint this anime in particular in a bad light. I agree that the art is a bit clunky at times, the pacing is weird, to say the least, and the end is sort of tacked on. But all of that aside, I think that this is a great little anime to watch if you need something to tide you over between seasons
...
of your favorites anime.
At times, the connection between characters feels very thin, and it's a little hard to feel a connection to them, as the viewer. At other times, you may feel a deep connection to what the characters are trying to accomplish.
The story is fairly different, as compared to other anime that I've seen. Although I know for a fact that the premise of stopping time has been done before, I personally haven't seen it in an anime before. It is an interesting concept, however, and I'm glad this has explored it in the way that it has.
Overall, I enjoyed it, despite the flaws, and the janky art style. also, don't get your shorts in a knot about the ED, it's fun and enjoyable.
