Both of these involve children that want to be something else. Granted, Princess Jellyfish is older than the main character in Fancy Lala, I believe that they both still have the same problem, they want to be someone else.

Jinzou Ningen Kikaider The Animation
add

Both involve a child and a detective. Both are old (Metropolis is newer, but it's based off of the creator's manga [the godfather of anime, Osamu Tezuka, created both this anime and the manga[1940s] it is based off of). Both leave a lasting impact.

Metropolis

If you have a strong love for scenery and detail, you've come to the right place. I believe that Osamu Tezuka spent more time on the details of the characters, but the emphasis did fall greatly on everything else just as the creator of Mushishi did. Both of these involve solving mysteries, but other than that and the art work they don't really have much in common. Even the way in which the mysteries are solved is different.

Fairy Tail

Both have a strong sense of loyalty and friendship. Though Fushigi Yuugi has a love story that is plain as day, I'm sure Fairy Tail as a possibility of having one too somewhere down the line.

Metropolis

Both of these have a main character that contains a great amount of power but neither of them are aware of it. Both of them find someone that truly care about them and want to keep them in their lives. I think Metropolis should be given a chance if only because it was made by the godfather of anime. I'm sure that the creation was inspired by the other.

Darkside Blues
add

Metropolis is going to be a lot better than this anime because I think a lot more planning and preparation went in to it and it was also created by the godfather of anime, Osamu Tezuka. But...these two are similar in that they both have a dark side of a city that is in ruins. Both are also mainly mystery.

Clannad
add

I'm not quite sure why Clannad reminded me so much of this anime. I guess it's just because of the friendship aspect and the kind of ditsy female as one of the main characters that is trying her best to live life to the fullest. The stories are pretty different in where they end up going and Clannad is known as one of the saddest anime(but don't strike it down, you may be surprised) but it is also an amazing one to watch.

Blood-C

This anime doesn't involve gore but it involves some mystery and some possible government involvement. They are also similar in the fact that each of them has a super ditsy female as one of the main characters.

Corpse Party: Tortured Souls - Bougyakusareta Tamashii no Jukyou
add

Both of these are full of a lot of gore and involve high school students. Higurashi far surpasses all horror anime in my opinion, but this anime and Another are two of the most compatible to it. Corpse party is only 4 episodes long though and the story is no where near the level as Higurashi, but like I said, they are really similar in the gore area.
