In both at first it's hard to understand how all these characters and their stories are connected to each other but in the end they all become one big complex story. Also both have a little bit strange fantasy story with romance in it - Mekakucity actors is a lot stranger than Ef and Ef has more romance though! Both stories also leave you with lots of unanswered questions. In both the story still somehow works completely fine. Both are made by Shaft so both have the same typical style. And also both have the same nursery story style in it explaining the original background story. And at last but not least both have the same feeling - if you know what I mean! Ef has way more depth as Mekakucity though! Belive me if you liked the either one than you'll definitely like the other one!

Both have a really terribly bad—but still for some reason kind of exciting—story. Both have the same harem content (every girl falls somehow for the main—well almost every). Both are ecchi and have very similar action content. (In Kore wa Zombie, it's fantasy-action and in Date a Live, it's sci-fi-action, but both have a very similar action style.) Both have excellent animation and artwork. Both have the same humor—a really stupid but damn funny humor! Both have these situations where you don't know whether you should be laughing or crying; these situations happen even when the lowest trash gets the most awesome thing in the world! They are both extremely cheap but still extremely entertaining! So basically, these two series have exactly the same atmosphere and flair ;)

the sequel of ef: a tale of memories completes the story of the two cities and fascinates again with a real sad but still satisfying story, awesome artwork and good characters
