Learning the alphabet is honestly the biggest initial hurdle, but no need to fear: once you learn the Russian alphabet, things get a lot easier from there.

Keep in mind that at least with Dostoevsky, a lot of the shit and misery his characters go through was partly based on the stuff he went through in real life, namely that he was sent to a prison camp in Siberia and was almost executed beforehand, so he had a pretty miserable time, henceforth, explaining why a lot of that introspective misery is present in his works.

As for Bake? Hmmm, a lot of boils down to the littler details more than anything else, like how snappy the dialogue is, or the rampant visual gags, plus I really like hitagi/kanbaru as well lol
