A romcom about a girl that like to tease a boy. By that setting, the first anime/manga that pop out from mind mostly is Skilled Teaser Takagi-san, and it’s hard not to use them as standard to compare this one with similar setting. That’s why a first time viewers or readers would be expecting a funny daily life of two person fighting each other with a small spice of romance development. But instead what we got here is a blushing daily life of a couple fighting each other with a small spice of humor.
The first few episode success to deliver a jokes but as the
...
romance part develops, everything easily leads to blushing moments, at first this is still amusing to watch but later becomes boring because it’s repeated so many times. That’s not what I want, I’m looking for a funny entertainment here. On the contrary, Takagi consistent with teasing jokes all the way through and climaxed with a wholesome romance which give more smile to viewers because this small moment is rare and precious.
I understand this might result to a slower pace of story development, but too much predictable romance moments is not good either (ehem.. Nisekoi), while a lot of funny moments is good as long as they can keep the quality of the jokes itself. In the end Uzaki romance development is not that much either. Summary, having an appropriate allocation between rom & com is the recipe to make this genre success, on that note Uzaki needs to learn more from her younger senpai Takagi.
(additional unimportant note) It seems like few episodes in the middle was supposed to be a promotional tourist spot Tottori. At least that’s what on their mind while producing this, but zannen! Corona strike the world early this year. Maybe this also the reason why there’s too much romance that speed up the viewers getting bored.
Even if didn't match with the anime genre but I admit that the ED song Kokoro Knock is the best ost this season, beating a music dedicated anime ost Planetarium at 2nd spot.

Re:Zero was my first anime that I found by myself, without recommendation from friend, nor watching from TV either, so I treat it preciously. The first season hits me well and I can't wait for s2, makes me want to know the story ahead and read straight to the novel. So I want to give review from novel reader point of view.
The sanctuary arc is a long story, I wonder how they would fit this to 2-cour anime and now the half result is a bit off for me. This arc is more complicated than any previous one, while only armed with one save point,
...
MC must deal with many problem from 2 different place, this what makes it interesting. Even more, to give extra PTSD, the game difficulty will increase each time reloading because the stench is getting stronger. But somehow this problem kinda being ignored, I haven't seen a concrete solution, somehow it just solved on last eps.
(light spoiler) This season is an enlightenment. How to make Emilia recognized by the citizens not because she is supported by MC that already recognized by them. How important not to help her too much & start to belive her. How much Witches that exist on this world. How Return by Death skill actualy works etc. The more information we got, more materials we can use to understand the story setting and to solve the upcoming problems. On this arc we also get to know the reveal of real antagonist, but it didn’t give me much hatred maybe because they didn’t fully explain all the dirty plan up to this state with all the unreasonable reasoning. Then talking about the trial, they did a good job presenting the personality of MC’s parent. But at 2nd trial they didn’t show much of the bad side effect when MC restarting, it’s important to show the impact to him & the others.
(heavy spoiler, sorry) Example, after found out Rem’s condition he didn’t hesitate to suicide like this world is not important at all, the check point is actually right before he stab himself, that’s why he is so mad and he stab restart again n’ again, later he knows that his act leads to Satella taking control the body and rampage on all the worlds he just made. They didn’t explain that 2nd trial should be easy for normal people because it’s just a possibility that didn’t actually happen, but it’s different for MC because that event exist for real on all the alternate world he made.
(light spoiler) But the good different from novel is Echidna, while she gives more mysterious & weird vibes there, but here she is more loveable & seems kind which give more impact to viewers at her final long speech.
It’s kinda not fair to give review before the second part airing. But this is how my impression for current part. So after full review later, this one will be expired.

I’m going straight, If you expect this to be a harem anime, you’ll be disappointed. At least that’s what currently adapted to anime, I don’t know about the origin.
A rental girlfriend, I’m a bit surprised that it’s really exist and someone made a story of it got my attention. A generic simp rent a gf to fill his loneliness after his real gf suddenly break up with him, followed by other rental gfs that show up because of plot. On harem genre usually the girls is the one that start to grow a feeling toward MC and then compete each other. But here our MC
...
is too simp to fall for the main girl while keep chasing ex and ignoring the additional 2. I understand that main girl is so kind & care but I think after ep1 there’s a fundamental thing suddenly forgotten here. You paid for it dude! That’s her job, of course she would live up to her reputation as rank 1 rental gf, wake up!
(spoiler ahead)
At the moment of MC somehow passed out after saving main girl, I think it’s normal for her to try get him back alive, because somehow there’s no one else around after such an incident. So don’t flatter yourself dude, she did that because she still have humanity and common sense, not because she likes you, not yet.
I should repeat again that this is not a harem anime because the quality distribution between the girls is not fair. The main girl is already OP because the obvious winner, yet she still got many buffs all the way through the series. Because he already head over heels with the main girl, it leads to him treating Ruka-chan so bad. I know she’s kinda annoying at first but she has a reason that only the viewers getting an explaination. I’m not rooting for her but I can't stay still after MC made up & tell a rude lie to his family about her. Hidoi.. After the viewers hate him, the author decide to solve it by giving buff to MC by saying cool stuff about his promise with ex, but that didn’t solve the problem here!
For the finishing touch, the last eps didn’t solve much of the problem presented, or at least leaving a huge cliffhanger. While the previous eps sucess to build a tense but the last eps is Nope, it’s flat. I understand this is because lack of screen time but this might leads to viewers less eager to continue.

If you try to read a review for this kind of genre, it means you already consider to join the deepest lowest & moe-est part of anime world, which is Music Idol. No matter what genre you’re watching, your friends & families will still call you a weebs anyway, so why don’t you just go full throtle diving here to the unexplored Atlantis. Expand your world and find your amusement, then we can finally said “Welcome, my fellow fking weebs.”
Actually it’s not fully my rights to said that because it’s my first time diving here, so I tried to give a review from a newcomer
...
point of view.
Lapis Re:Lights is like a music idol anime that didn’t show too much of the idol part. While other idol animes doing a perform in hope for gathering popularity, instead these girls doing that for collecting mana.. I mean collecting peoples feelings to be the power source of the city. Maybe the story introduction looks generic, a girls school where they make groups to sing and get extra score, when low score group might be expelled from school, there’s also a group ranking discrimination here. By that setting from Ep1 you can expect where the story leads to, but I’m not going to convince you to change that view because they kinda got me halfway there, not gonna lie.
If you came here looking for a good performance, I can’t guarantee that. Best I can offer is Ep2 ending, if you like it you can keep going. Some costumes is cute & cool but personally I don’t like overly exposing tops especially for lolis so I don’t like the japanese trio and the only duo here. They try to add magic on this anime for fighting or daily life purpose, also for the shows where a lots of light popping up and other effects to spice up the stage. The lights makes a cube following their gesture, and other generic shape like star or candy. I like the idea but too much magical things sometimes make us unable to fully enjoy the show. Bungee jumpin between buildings, that’s for story pupose so it’s ok. Flying too high in the sky, is it for the plot? Quickly changing camera angle, my brains tremble.... I can’t keep up with that. But there are many good use of magic here when we follow their daily life like when the sport match, it’s highly entertaining.
If you came here for story plot, for me it’s good enough. But if you want that kind of PLOT, wrong place dude, there’s a lot of generic isekai out there. While following the main group, we also get to see 2 others groups dealing with their internal problem but don’t worry, our MC is not K*rito taking too much role meddling with other business which is nice for me, while the 2 high rank group didn’t have problem to begin with, we still get to see their funny interaction. For a large number of cast, it’s normal to see a diverse personality as well. Most of them can keep their consistency with the growth pace which is great, but I spot a character kinda out of trail. Early she can comfort the others when they in trouble, so mature despite her appearance. But later Eps she timidly run away after getting a huge task, I know it’s for building more tense for the final problem but there are some other girl fits better to fill the role.
If you don’t care much about the performance but still enjoying just the music. This is a good one for you. Indeed, not all ost is good but I can recommend some of them that hits me well. I dont know if the creator team being unfair or it’s just my taste but only MC group songs that's all good & have more than twice songs than others, a total of 5 with ED song Planetarium, 1st perform 700 million ..something, reuniting Watashi no Na wa Hikari, final perform Your Light, also first & last song we heard A.R.I.A. Other group with best overall performance is the highest rank supernova in both 2 songs. The rest is just 1 good song each, introduction of ghost girl, and final perform of trio waitress but it so sort, also don’t forget the opening by all stars, by the way as I mentioned before I don't like JP trio & the only duo here. Unfortunately, we didn’t get much of Hanazawa Kana singing. If you like it, please consider buy the original soundtrack next november (maybe).
