“From now on, until the end of your life your past is going to constantly take revenge on you.”
I’m going to preface this review with a warning: This manga has the most disturbing things that CAN does indeed happen, and more often then you think. Crimes like rape, bullying, sexual assault, and murder are all seen in this manga.
This manga is about a person named Yusuke, a high schooler who is sometimes called a devil, yet cannot remember due to amnesia. When confronted about his past by several old classmates, he finds out he was a heinous person in middle school. During their confrontations he
...
learns that he has consistently victimized and brutalized his old classmates, yet has no recollection of it. During the course of the series, he is faced with the jarring task of remembering all his old memories and coming to terms with the crimes he has done.
The story consists of two acts, with the first act is with him recollecting all his memories, and horrific things he has done to his victims. This includes many interactions with his former victims, and the jaw dropping revelations and dialogue that come from it.
The second act is about of him living with the consequences of his actions, with him attempting to atone for his sins, using different methods to do so.
The reason this manga sets other redemption manga apart from the rest, are the thought-provoking themes that are set into place, and the several jarring questions the manga asks you. Are the human equivalent of ‘devils’ deserving of a second chance? How does one truly atone for one’s actions? What are the effects of nature vs nurture on a person? And does the past define you as a person?
The concept of the pursuit of atonement when dealing with horrific crimes is often viewed as one sided affair when it comes to second chances. This manga does a good job of showing the consequences one has to endure, even as far as ten years after the main characters actions.
Overall this manga had me genuinely intrigued throughout the whole session of me reading, and has a great conclusion to follow.

Hands down the most surprising manga I have read ever. This manga rotates around a teacher who teaches ethics, and tries his best to follow his own code of ethics.
This manga follows an episodic format, with each chapter or two (maybe three) focusing on a new student, with their varying perspective of Takayanagi the ethics teacher. Each student has their own varying problem, and Takayanagi trying his best to help them out in any way.
What is exceptional about this manga are the philosophical messages and questions that are embedded throughout throughout the manga.
One of the main questions being asked that I like
...
(as an inner conflict of the main character) was professionalism vs emotional support. Is it ethical to go beyond the boundaries of a teacher and give a student special treatment because of their situation? If so, will you give all the other students the same special treatment too? If such treatment is ethical, how far can you go until it’s considered “unethical.”
Subsequently, because of said conflict and his altruistic nature, Takayanagi is an exceptionally written main character. He embodies what a teacher should be, treating everyone with respect while being capable of emotion himself. He isn’t pretentious and is humanized unlike other mentors, and is slowly learning the limits of balancing the line between being an emotional guide and being a professor.
The one thing I did dislike about this manga however, was the lack of intricacy of the side characters. This is mainly due to the fact that the manga follows an episodic format, so side characters rarely get much appearances throughout the manga.
If it wasn’t episodic it may have the potential of a 10/10
But for now it’s a solid 9/10
I HIGHLY recommend this manga to anyon

This manga entails a very unique perspective on the burdens and insecurities that people take on during their lifetime. These burdens and insecurities are viewed as “Homunculus,” creatures or things that take the shape of such insecurities.
Coupled with the creative plot line of this manga, the art of this manga is among some of the best artistic displays I’ve seen. Every panel is very intricate and detailed, with some panels being the most creative art I’ve seen in animanga.
The characters are not to be taken lightly either, with the main character being one of the most complex and in-depth main characters in animanga. Reading
...
Nakoshi’s journey through the manga keeps you constantly engaged, as his actions and his words throughout the story are constant with his character development.
From growing and maturing as a person, to reflecting on past mistakes, to questioning humanity and what it means to be human, to him losing humanity all together, it throws the reader for a ride that is hard not to enjoy.
Albeit his controversial actions throughout the story, you often are curious to see what he does next, and how far his rabbit hole goes. Until you are left with the ending on the last chapter. Depending on how you like ambiguous endings, this could either be a really good ending or a ghastly one. Endings open to interpretation often are good when reading a story as complex as this one, so I enjoyed the ending.
Overall, this manga is probably my favorite written manga of all time (not favorite overall, just in writing) and is something I highly recommend to those who want to read something with substance.

Guys, guys, if you do not know what a masterpiece entails, this is it: a MASTERPIECE!
This manga is one of the best examples of character growth I've seen in a long time. From the fleshed out settings, and moral ambiguity of each major character the in Act 1, to the multi-faceted development of the main character in act 2.
If you want to see a manga where the major characters change drastically throughout the entire manga:
If you want to see a manga where each major character embodies major themes that is relatable in a real life setting:
If you want to see a manga with one
...
of the best character conclusions of all time:
If you want to see a manga with an enigmatic, yet decisive ending with many question answered:
If you want to see many characters with multi-faceted layers in their character:
Read this manga. You won't regret it.
