This entire manga is basically told in a slice of life manner but in a fantasy setting with some video game aspects. As you read through the manga, you’re experiencing Rou (Protagonist) living out his life in this new world, crafting weapons & armor, cooking, killing monsters.
Personally, I cannot stand the slice of life since I find it boring as it tells you mundane daily experiences of the protagonist. Unless we’re talking about well written comedy, e.g. Grand Blue, Danshi Koukousei, I’d usually say no to most slice of life.
One thing to NOT expect in a slice of life is a story as they usually
...
do not have one. And this manga lacks a story, it does not go beyond telling you the things Rou does daily. Having read over 30 chapters, it still felt that wasn’t any plot that was going anywhere.
The second problem I had with this is the characters. Rou was made to be overpowered and everything is pretty much handed to him. All enemies are defeated one-sidedly and gets the girl easily. All these made it seem like the manga simply exists to fulfill the author and male readers’ fantasy. With me being a Shounen Action manga fuckboy, I find joy in seeing protagonists becoming stronger as they overcome trials and difficulties. In this manga, however, it’s the opposite of that. Rou doesn’t really struggle in any way which really takes out the stakes in the fights that are supposed to make the fights exciting.
The characters also lack personality. This is best simplified in describing his harem. I would describe them all with “acts cute, adores Rou, gets jealous over him”. There really isn’t anything distinct between the members of his harem. Moreover, every character just felt uninteresting as they felt generic. This applies to the protagonist as well, there wasn’t much to Rou’s personality, which made him feel like a blank slate, thus making easier for readers in picture themselves in Rou’s shoes. Ever wondered why certain hentai protagonists are faceless? They’re to be blank slates for you to imagine yourself being the protagonist. And this manga does well in creating a blank slate protagonist without much personality.
Overall, if you’d like to fulfill your fantasy of becoming an overpowered hunk of muscle who gets all the girls and form a harem. This is the manga for you. If you’re looking good story telling and well written characters, you’re looking in the wrong place.
