You don't watch Michael Bay's "Transformers" expecting an Oscar-worthy movie, likewise you shouldn't watch an anime like this expecting the next FLCL, SAO, or even Naruto.
Now, if you keep the content in mind, the fact that this is an ecchi harem comedy-drama, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the fact that there's an actual decent overall story, good characterizations, and excellent art.
The characters, naturally, follow the typical archetypes, but they grow from there and develop back stories that make you really care about most of them. The art, while it may be considered a cookie-cutter style, is an excellent sample of that style
