Now that anime's content has been determined and homogenized by the commercial impetus that once merely underlay it, and now that anime's basic purpose is to keep you watching (and buying BDs), the images now all point toward that now-imperceptible managerial intention. And because anime is, on the whole, devised by and for the same class and generation, it constitutes a vehicle of collective self-allurement and self-solace, so that the spectacle has all the eerie resonance of a great bad dream. Anime's images, furthermore, should be all the richer in unconscious meanings for the increased sophistication of the visual technology that represents them. Calculated always to jolt the nerves of the half-attentive, and hardcore otaku, the spectacle is less and less elaborately scripted and plotted, while more and more reliant on generic premises, cliches, and depth as blunt as middle-school poetry. Such is the imperative behind all the televised twenty-four minute episodes: fan-service, repetitious character tropes and plots, so that anime's "concentrated volume of appeal" actually gives more and more away the more it tries to rush and dazzle beyond understanding what its all about.
And yet, you faggots keep supporting shit anime, during which expecting overall quality to not suffer, and expecting oncoming masterpieces. May Ghibli save you.
How I Rate Anime:
I rate anime as 5/10 being average. Note that the average anime I watch I have enjoyed. I try my best not to watch shows that I know aren't quality, which is why you won't see many 4/10's or below on my list.
Do you see a show that I rated too highly or lowly? That's fine! After all, my scores are given subjectively. There's no reason to quarrel! Understand that we are all here to enjoy anime, and we all agree that your opinion is inferior to mine.
You believe I cannot pray with a single arm? A prayer comes from the heart.
You can destroy planets, but you can never destroy what I am, friend.
