If you enjoyed the style of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, but was left in utter shock by the end, the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai is simply for you. For myself, i had left the original series for a few months before eventually proceeding to watch this one. Thankfully i did. No spoilers
Story
This version is done in the same style as the original except with an ending that actually makes sense. The plot is incredibly unique in a way that consistently leaves the viewer trying to guess what happens next. The story starts out with an opening episode, followed by a 4 episode

arc. The real story begins to occur after this initial set up, so dont be deterred thinking its the same thing over and over again. It also includes a background of a few of the characters which is extremely helpful in understanding the story at a later point. 9/10
Art
Nothing high quality here. Its a basic animation with a constant reminder that this is not real life. At times, the artwork almost seems way too plain and i find that it lacks the graphic details and perspective artwork to portray certain scenes in the best possible way.
7/10
Character
The character development is one of the reasons which makes the second season so much better than the first. Most of the characters have already been introduced in the first season and a basic development has already been established. Kai has a strong focus on Furude Rika, who now becomes the main character of the anime.
8/10
Overall the anime has come a long way since the first season. The story which left viewers pondering finally comes to a full conclusion. The story is profound, the character development is great, and i rushed through the whole 24 episodes in just under 3 days. Needless to say i fully enjoyed it
