Superficially it's a redemption plot. The veil of mystery surrounding the protagonists circumstances gradually reveals a darkness within and his resolve to deny his nature. Yet the God Yato declares himself beyond the boundaries of human morality by which his human foils wish to define him.
The world building is curious and fascinating just like Yato's conflicted character. Fickle humanity has left the unchanging god without purpose. A POSITIVE REVIEW.
The sumptuously animated magical realism in this anime plays with the idea that, "Imagining the future is a kind of nostalgia" The anime seeks to establish an atmosphere of yearning. The freeze frame scene transitions at key 'moments' and the classical music score deftly and effectively achieve this goal. The characters are interesting without being dramatic and overwrought, which is a breath of fresh air; and we are given understated reasons why their relationship growth is believable. ... |
