Preliminary (11/? chp)
The anime is airing, so here's a review if you still aren't sure about this series. Note that it's a great and captivating series but the review does point out some negative aspects.

Story: 8/10
Character: 6/10
Enjoyment: 7/10
Overall Rating Bias: +/- 1

Verdict:
I do recommend the series though, the world is worth discovering and the events that occur around the main character worth following. If you want a science fiction take on magic in a realistic setting, this is worth checking out.
Watching the anime will most likely relieve the technical explanations, setting descriptions and bring character depth.

Recommend watching this in place of the original series.

Btw I gave the original TV series a 4.

This remake fulfills its purpose - the retro feel is gone and general quality is up - and you can even get this in full HD.

Everything, beside plot shifts and new developments, is condensed and the pace is much more steady. For me this is a positive change, since the original 26 episodes plus ending movie felt a bit like torture.

So, if you are debating which to try, I would definitely say ...

Nothing else is noteworthy in the series. Animation, art, development - all meh. It seemed like they wanted to cater it to a gender neutral audience but I don't think they nailed it. Failed to attract me much.

I was only interested in the setting and the premise; how this world came about, what was truly going on and such. At certain point I found the humans and main characters - especailly Saki, so very foolish.

Oh yea and a warning, there is a short ...

Mixed Feelings
The sole reason for a 6 is independent of all other scores.

Like many others watching this after it finished, I knew of the disturbing ending it is infamous for. Deciding to experience it myself, I went for the uncensored version, nothing less.

What I found was quite the opposite - rather than dreading the awful ending, by the fifth episode I wished the anime ended already.
The character design and development was what killed the show, long before the ending. Psychological series are usually at the fault of this, and this failed my expectations.

Itou Makoto - the worst protagonist I've ever seen. Disliked him from the ...
