I did not expect much of this show at first, but my, was I surprised!
To begin with, Yakitate!! Japen started off rather slowly as to explain the overall setting.
But once events start happening, what opens up is a thoroughly entertaining show with a great athmosphere, hilariously questionable logic and a sense of humour and self-irony which makes the unexpected happen. And, of course, bread.
Having watched several other shows about food, it did make sense to me that Yakitate!! Japan also managed to keep me watching - there's just something about these food competitions that really motivates you to go on.
And even if you know that
...
one character always wins, it does not spoil it at all! What kind of food (or in this case, bread) will they make? What weird yet genius idea will they come up with next???
In addition to this, Yakitate!!Japan, as already mentioned, is hilarious. This show does not take itself too seriously, which allows it to come up with wonderfully twisted and silly logic, and break the forth wall without seeming like trying too hard for jokes.
The characters are also really likeable, and some are just exaggerated enough to fit into the beautiful randomness that makes this show so entertaining.
To conclude, I really recommend watching this show. Especially if you're into food anime, this is a must-see!

I wasn't sure at first whether I should watch Kekkai Sensen, but I just gave it a try - and I did not regret it!
This series is wonderful, in my opinion. It really entertained me and motivated me to watch on.
The art is stunning, especially the environment and athmosphere.
The music used shows much variety: Cool and energetic background soundtracks, relaxing vocal pieces, even classical music! It is fantasic to see such a great range of different styles in one series.
The usage of the songs is also interesting, as they occasionally combined them with scenes that would typically not be thought to fit together with
...
such music. But for this series, I found this idea great, as it adds to the weirdness and abnormality that is assiciated with the anime's setting.
The story might be a bit confusing at first, as it is not your typical linear storyline.
Basically, this series provides a mix of slice-of-live/comedy and action. It may seem incoherent and confusing to some, but the episodic structure actually gives a great feeling, enabling the viewer to observe the not-so-normal daily lives of the different characters in the chaotic and fantastic town, and to feel as if they were a part of it.
Still, important story elements are spread over many episodes, and remembering and combining them at the end was something I personally really enjoyed.
To conclude, I would recommend Kekkai Sensen to anyone who does not necessarily need an obvious and linear storyline to enjoy a series. Thanks to the setting, art, music, and many other aspects, it surely never becomes boring!

(I am about halfway through the series as I cannot get myself to enduring more episodes, but if I finish it and my opinion changed I will update this review.)
This anime is based on the game "Valkyria Chronicles", which I personally really liked. Now the series deals with the same story as the game and starts off with much potential, the art style also stays true to the original.
BUT: sadly, this does not keep up.
The anime has much more unnecessary fanservice, random anime clichées are thrown in which the game did not have, some characters act completely different than in the game (Alicia suddenly became
...
a Super Tsundere, and sadly that's not all that has changed).
Further, in addition to the original romance subplot, several other romances are inserted without much thought and they seem totally out of place. I mean, they made one character a love rival (in the series he had no romantic interests at all!!!), just to make the relationships more "intersting". They became more ridiculous, that's all.
Some plot elements are also altered. I know it's not easy to make a series based on a game, but most changes were not necessary.
To conclude, it is REALLY REALLY hard to watch this if you liked the game and impossible to take it seriously (they even inserted a panty joke).
I would not recommend this for anyone. If you want to enjoy a good story, play the game.
