Detective Conan Movies Rewatch Before Watching Movie 26: Movie 16

Movie 16 is the perfect example of a good mystery with terrible execution. It's a shame because the code and the case presented in this movie were much improved over the previous five movies, yet by the end of the movie I was somewhat glad that it was over.

The biggest issue is that the movie is so cringeworthy at times. I thought the middle part with Conan training with the J-Leaguer was already close to being a fever dream, but the climax was even worse. It was cliche upon cliche without any flow. The part where ...

Detective Conan Movies Rewatch Before Watching Movie 26: Movie 15

This movie took the Mission Impossible aspects of movie 14 and ramped up even further. Our beloved hero is now going full Tom Cruise mode and doing impossible stunts throughout the movie, and I'm all for it. In addition, the stakes were raised to the point that it felt like our hero wouldn't be able to save the day, which made the movie more thrilling than most other DC movies.

However, despite all the action sequences, this movie also had a lot of heart. The movie tackled subjects of friendship, maturity, and family more than a typical ...

Detective Conan Movies Rewatch Before Watching Movie 26: Movie 14

Movie 14 marks the transition of DC movies from mystery/action movies to more Tom Cruise/Mission Impossible movies. Here, we see our beloved Heisei Holmes battle against a terrorist organization. While DC movies involve suspension of disbelief, this one and subsequent movies really deviate from what is usually possible within the DC franchise. And I'm fine with it provided the movie executes well. Movie 14 does.

While movie 14 is full of action, it still manages to exude a sense of dread using the threat of the virus as a backdrop. The case, despite not being a typical ...

Detective Conan Movies Rewatch Before Watching Movie 26: Movie 13

The return of the BO also marked the return of a darker DC movie. Movie 13's biggest strength is easily the execution of BO's presence throughout the movie. From the very beginning, the movie set a dark, gritty tone that has been missing in the past two movies. The BO members were also at their best. Gin was his intimidating self, Vermouth was her seductive, mysterious self, and Chianti/Korn were the crazy dogs. In addition, it was great that they had a member infiltrating the police force, and they dangled every police officer to be suspicious, ...

Detective Conan Movies Rewatch Before Watching Movie 26: Movie 12

Similar to movie 11, movie 12 isn't for everyone. Whereas movie 11's subject was more on the childish side, movie 12's subject was more on the "you either like it or don't" side. I enjoy classical music, so this movie was enjoyable to watch and listen. Furthermore, movie 12 gave us something rare, an original character that had a significant role in the movie. Akiba Reiko, while not exactly unique in personality, was a likable character who had a good rapport with Conan. Her partnership and interactions with Conan carried much of the movie, and had ...

Detective Conan Movies Rewatch Before Watching Movie 26: Movie 11

This movie is often considered the worst DC movie, but I'm good with it.

Some of the complaints are valid. For example, the case is more childish than the typical DC movie, as the subject itself involves treasure hunting and a lot of "touristy" code-solving. In addition, the nature of the setting (tourist destination) means this can feel more like a TV original versus a movie.

However, the movie never deviates from the central plotline, and it did a good job of presenting a case in a logical, natural manner. In addition, the movie does manage to balance ...

Detective Conan Movies Rewatch Before Watching Movie 26: Movie 10

The tenth DC movie marked a return to form after two consecutive stumbles. Requiem of the Detectives presented a good case while maintaining a suspenseful setting throughout, balanced by sprinkles of actions to keep the audience entertained. Movie 10 also marked the return of Hattori Heiji, whose partnership with Conan carried the movie. In addition, the movie utilized Kaito Kid well without letting Kid overshadow the movie's central plot. Most importantly, the story flowed well for the most part, with very few unforced plot points (a particular issue with the last two movies).

The only issue of ...

Detective Conan Movies Rewatch Before Watching Movie 26: Movie 9

This movie felt like a two-hour TV special, which is not a good thing.

The case presented in the movie was quite good, much better than whatever was happening in Movie 8. We got a rare awake Kogoro deduction show (who was also in a tuxedo as well). The twist at the end was logical. Everything involved with the case itself was excellent. This was one of the best cases presented in DC.

Yet, the movie felt like a slog to go through. Unlike previous DC movies, this one lacked the scale and excitement of a typical DC ...

Detective Conan Movies Rewatch Before Watching Movie 26: Movie 8

This was the first stumble in the movie franchise.

The movie is saved by the entire second half of the sequence, where the movie successfully executed an exciting plane landing sequence involving our beloved cast. The plane landing sequence was very enjoyable to watch, and it single-handedly lifted the movie to be somewhat entertaining.

I was disappointed with almost everything else. Kaito Kid's code this time was not that impressive, and the motive of the code made the entire first half of the movie irrelevant. The murder case felt tacked onto the movie in a disconnected way, which ...

Detective Conan Movies Rewatch Before Watching Movie 26: Movie 7

Movie 7 finally saw the return of Heiji and Kazuha, and they were among the main supporting characters this time.

The movie served as a basic introduction to Kyoto and relationship development for our two pairings (despite the movies not being canon), and I thought the movie did a good job interweaving both with the case itself. The case presented a very interesting and difficult code that is culturally relevant to the city of Kyoto, though I do not know how culturally accurate the movie is overall. Mixed with some traditional Japanese music, the movie tries to ...
