A lot of manga are set in high school, so it can be difficult to create a work that truly stands out from the rest. In my opinion, Kuzushiro and Misaki Takamatsu are the ones who truly manage to do that. Both manga have got such a lovable cast with each character feeling so incredibly real and genuine, battling each with their own humane struggles. There’s never any unnecessary drama, and when they do deal with more serious issues, it’s always communicated very thoroughly. Not a single character feels dense and cliched but are rather very perceptive and talk things through, like real people. Not even to mention the best part: their very wholesome take on female friendships (and maybe even more than that at times). There’s no jealousy, no fighting and no talking behind someone’s back unless it’s for a good reason and to make characters feel more fleshed out. If you like one, you’re sure to fall in love with the other one as well.

Both series are in the comedic slice of life genre with just a tiny bit of romance sprinkled on top, carrying little to no drama elements at all. Both series also show the countryside of Japan in a very comforting way while simultaneously depicting the wholesome side of female friendships. However, Skip and loafer is a little bit more on the realistic side, focusing a lot on teenage problems and feelings whereas Non Non Biyori’s characters are way more chaotic and all over the place - but I wholeheartedly recommend to watch both of them, especially when you’re feeling stressed or sad :>
