Your article is good except for Lust and May Chang.
May Chang I believe was added for comedic purposes and to demonstrate the ability of her being unable to renunciate her perception of "The Fullmetal alchemist". I also feel like this was done to give a different, cheery perspective from the teenagers side about how they want certain things to go their way (as can seen through Edward and Alphonse's attempts of human alchemy) and Winry's idea of a peaceful world where she won't lose anyone (although this isn't ultimately emphasised of course).
Honestly, I just feel that May Chang was just a different path from what the author was attempting to get at and be the complete opposite of the sadness that thickens this anime. Lust, on the other hand, did have a huge personality but looking at your anime list, you dropped the 2003 version which highlighted this (please do watch it). Im not going to spoil anything but I'd just like to say that Arakawa creates a world where the stereotypical morees and the sin-like nature can be overcome.
Other than that great article if I do say so myself.
