SAO is about young people who are locked up in a virtual game where they have to make their way until the 100th floor in order to hope being liberated from it. This legendary anime is the one who propelled the isekai trend despite technically not entirely fitting the definition of an isekai.
I first watched this anime in 2014 then in 2023 and I can safely say that after all these years, this anime still holds up to its name. The animation is good. The soundtracks add a nice touch to the action scenes. The openings and especially the endings are good.
What I like the
...
most about the anime is the psychological aspect of being locked up into a virtual game where your choices are limited to wait for your death or fight: stay safely in the beginner zones or dive into the unknown levels full of dangers and fight the deadly bosses who keep each floors. The anime really feels like important things are at stake in fact the lives of thousands of people trapped into a virtual world depends on the success of the MC Kirito and a handful of other people who leads the way though the end of this game. Observing their steady progression throughout the episodes give you an exciting feeling. The romance is well paced and doesn't deceive us or make us wait unlike a lot of anime.
The second part is of the season isn't as good and doesn't have as much action as the first part but it's still a banger. The imouto incest bait isn't surprising since the anime has been made around the time as Oreimo but it's still bearable. The end is satisfying.
SAO will forever remain one of the best anime in my heart and soul. I 100% recommend this anime, especially if you're the type of person who enjoy the isekai genre!
