First season was very good but with a lack of depth to be really perfect. This second season is the opposite, we are introduced too many layers of depth it's either confusing or unnecessary. The story sometimes gives elements which you don't know if it's foreshadowing or meaningless information. Due to the more political perspective of this second season I feel like we also lose too much emotional connection with the different characters.
Overall it's good but I consider the first season better. I'm not reading the manga so i don't know where we are going with season 3 but I'm afraid it's going to keep

Short review of this show because I'm confused as to why it is so highly rated. To be clear i did not dislike it and i will keep watching the next seasons but this anime is kinda flat and empty.
The ingredients are always the same : You are in a countryside-like environment i would consider graphically "fine" for 2008, it does the job but nothing crazy. Obviously a show like this doesn't have the time and budget of a Ghibli movie. You put on a sad piano music and bring in a character with a sad story who needs help. And then the "hero" and ...

Some context about me : I was about 10 years old when the Pokemon show first started and keep good memories about it, also because of the games. But as i was getting older i kinda gave up somewhere around the third cycle (diamond/pearl). I tried watching it again, but let's face it the show is really childish and repetitive, with little to no character development. I don't know if that's the case for the last cycles as well as i never fully committed but it looked like it too.
