I fell from grace and began watching anime back in 2021 all thanks to my dearest cousin; who, wholeheartedly, told me to watch Naruto.
I do indeed watch dubs if they are available. Yes, I do not believe they are what one might describe as "peak" many a time. Although, most decent anime have fine dubs, and that is what I mostly watch. So, it all works out for me. Not having to read subtitles and being able to fully immerse myself into shows is something I value, perhaps more than the average anime aficionado (henceforth referred to as a "weeb" in my later tidings).
I also like to rewatch my favorite shows in order to analyze them to the absolute fullest.
I rate anime based on several metrics:
production quality (everything like art, animation, music, etc.)
plot & story (includes all story elements like characters, conflict, and overall coherency)
performance against initial expectations (this is reserved for hogwash like isekai or ecchi)
personal enjoyment (this is the X factor, and usually is the reason for changes in rating)
This is roughly what the ratings mean to me:
10: enough of a dopamine hike to give me post watch depression.
9: lacks in some regard to be a true masterpiece.
8: jolly good show.
7: had a good time.
6: definitely had some good moments in it, otherwise boring.
5: for the bovine masses to consume.
4: this is the plateau of forgettable
3: just please do not waste your time watching.
2: usually the lowest rating a bad entry will get.
1: reserved for the truly dreadful.
