Character: 8 (This is Very Good)
Enjoyment: 9 (Great)
Overall: 9 (Grate)
Nearly every Naruto background character is Steve Blum, it is but I suppose you could have only seen two movies, or even just 1 movie and a door. Truly, no more words need be said. It is too bad that Sasuke leaves Hidden Leaf Village at the end of the series though. Crap, I am going on for too long and this review is becoming more of a rant by mistake, I sincerely apologise for that. SO THEN, THIS IS THE END OF THE REVIEW.

Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt quickly became one of my favorite animes, as I knew only halfway through the first episode that it had captured my heart in a completely different way than any other anime had. From the very beginning this show will shock you with the amount of gratuitous profanity that comes out of the character's mouths, disgusting topics that often involve bodily functions, and unexpected amount of violence blend to create one of the funniest shows I've seen, and it keeps this momentum all the way through the series easily.
The first thing that will capture any viewer's
...
interest is the absolutely superb art and animation which replicate the style of western cartoons rather than typical anime. Sound effects stylistically appear in literal forms as the words "BLAM BLAM BLAM" shoot rhythmically out of Panty's gun with each pull of the trigger. Action, like the writing, is VERY fast paced and the animation style adds to the overwhelming feeling of chaos and insanity during these action segments. When I initially picked this show up, I expected to laugh of course, but I was definitely not expecting to witness such fantastic spectacles of action alongside the crude humour. Additionally, the art style will rarely change and include live action elements and the series also employs a more traditional anime art style while Panty and Stocking get ready to duke it out with one of the various demons.
The soundtrack for this show is also far better than I had initially expected, with most of the songs feeling very funky, fun, and clubby. When this show wants you to get excited, the music that kicks in always gets your blood pumping as you try to keep up with the insanely fast paced action! I quickly made sure to download this OST after I finished the series, and most of the music makes for perfect party songs.
Both Panty and Stocking are extremely well written characters, and are never caught without a one-liner ready. And no matter how many swears they spurt at eachother or how many times you see Panty getting laid, they both remain very likable characters! Every episode is insanely fast paced which keeps you entertained the entire time and the 20 minute long episodes just completely blast by! Before you know it, it will be over and you'll be anxiously hoping for a second season! This show is purposefully crude and offensive, and if that's alright with you, I can not recommend it enough!

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar, or Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash is a good series that is worth its time. The story of it is rather simple, where the characters wake up in a new fantasy world with no memories of their previous lives and must work together to slay monsters in order to make a living and sustain themselves. Other than survival, the characters do not seem to have any real goals. This changes as the series progresses and they set out side goals for themselves but overall their main goal is still simply staying alive and earning their keep, which makes
...
it feel like a more realistic series because there is no real antagonist for them to overcome. Instead, the group attempts to handle each obstacle as it comes and they start off completely useless. But as the series progresses and the team becomes more familiar with each other, they manage to start adapting to Grimgar much better.
What is cool about the series is that the obstacles the group faces, such as goblins and other monsters, are not really the actual goal. What this anime is really about, is team building. Each character in Grimgar has their own strengths as well as a whole host of weaknesses. The anime is driven mostly by the characters and not an overarching plot/goal, which is a nice concept and it works fairly well here, but a big problem with the series is that the characters themselves are not all that interesting. A massive focus is put on the characters as a group as well, which means certain characters do not step into the limelight very often and feel kind of left out. For instance, while Ranta gets alot of screen time as a heavy source of conflict within the group due to his difficult nature and hotheaded intensity, Mogzo and Shihoru are barely developed at all throughout the series due to being very quiet. This is a shame, because as the group developes throughout the series so should the individuals and that just does not seem to be the case.
Touching on the presentation on the series, this is an element where Grimgar really shines, literally. The world of Grimgar is beautifully drawn and the backgrounds often look like amazing storybook illustrations that fit the series fantasy genre well. There are points where the characters will slow down for a minute to take a breath and allow both them and the viewer to gaze upon the sights in awe for a few moments. Along with the visuals, the soundtrack is certainly above average. At sad moments the soundtrack and visuals combine to make for an immersive somber experience, while on the opposite end of the spectrum the soundtrack switches gears entirely to hype rock that excites the viewer during action scenes.
Overall, Grimgar's soundtrack and visuals are great but are not able to carry this series into the realm of true awesomeness due to its plot and characters kind of slouching behind. The series also ends with many unanswered questions, hopefully to be picked up in a season 2, but its doubtful. This series is rather slow paced, but that's not to say it's boring exactly. It is nice to see the group slowly develope as opposed to instantly becoming heroes like in most shows these days. There are points that do unfortuantely drag on though, especially when the main character (who is perhaps the most boring of the cast...) spends minutes on end overanalyzing his own leading capabilities or how to communicate with his team better, namely Ranta.
Essentially Grimgar is most of what I had hoped SAO would be before it turned into an instant gratification harem with cliche romance. This series will stick to its guns and follow through with being an anime about surviving in a simulation-esque fantasy world. This series delivers some truly cool action moments coupled with some unexpected emotional elements as well. Since it's only 12 episodes long, I would definitely recommend anyone who enjoys fantasy elements to check it out!

Ao No Exorcist is a very average anime in my eyes, and one that I think most casuals or newcomers to anime will thoroughly enjoy but when I am afraid that when it comes to people who have already seen a decent amount of anime it will fall into mediocrity and soon be forgotten.
The characters are rather bland and have very clear-cut personalities, with the main character Rin Okumura being an average teenage guy who tries his best to be a good guy but is lazy and shirks his responsibilities. Rin is one of the most generic looking anime characters that I have ever
...
seen, he truly is just a normal black-haired teen who wears normal clothes. His only defining traits appearance-wise are his horns and tail that protrude when he becomes angry. He is also hot-headed and quick to act without thinking. Of course his younger brother Yukio is the responsible type and often does his best to keep Rin's priorities straight. These two personalities clash and provide a decent amount of humour in the show but the roles themself are certainly nothing ground breaking. Rin is also a character whom I feel is meant to be an avatar that the viewer can live out their fantasy through, similar to Kirito from Sword Art Online. Ironically, Rin and Kirito also have the same english VA which may have influenced me thinking of him like that.
Speaking of voices, the overall english dub is well put together and features veterans of the field such as Johnny Yong Bosch and Kyle Hebert, and since the cast is experienced it makes for an excellent dub. As for the rest of the sound aspects, the music is not very engaging and does not hype up action scenes much or impact serious scenes as much I would like. Additionally the OP/ED's are average but easy to forget.
Action in Ao No Exorcist is few and far between and normally not very entertaining. You will either be watching characters shooting at generic demons, reading bible verses, or ending battles with a single swipe of a sword. This is when battles are shown, as the series frustratingly has action taking place out-of-frame frequently during big moments and instead decides to focus on the spectators' reactions to the fight rather than showing the battle itself. There are many times where it seems like two characters are about to seriously duke it out 1v1, but Ao No Exorcist never successfully capitalises on these fight opportunities. Fight scenes are very short and the animation behind them is far from spectacular.
Where the series really shines is in it's comedy and slice of life elements, but as funny as the comedic bits are they don't come up quite enough to keep the viewer as engaged as they should be. Almost every episode has a hysterical laugh-out-loud moment, but episodes should have MORE than one moment like that. The series also abandons comedy altogether for some episodes and especially near the end of the series. It almost feels as if this show was supposed to be a long-running shonen because the main character only finds out he has powers right in the beginning of the anime and then must work to properly learn to harness them as the series progresses. But the thing is, hardly any progress seems to be made in this area yet Rin still seems to win most battles with ease.
If you are looking for an average show to kill some time, Ao No Exorcist is a good choice and it should keep you entertained for most of the runtime, but don't expect any lasting impact. There are far better shows with better plot, characters, fight scenes, and takeaways, but Ao No Exorcist is a wonderful show to turn your brain off and enjoy!
