People have two different perspectives about this show :
- The failed new Evangelion with a pinch of [Enter Mecha anime name here] with a major disappointment due to the advertising preceding its release
- The rebirth of the Earth through the eyes of self-growing children
Obviously I loved this show, the first episodes were a kick, and I thought like everyone else that it would take the same road as other Mecha anime with a high political influence ( Aldnoah Zero / Code Geass ). Then it was vague, I was lost after the action was done. The characters started to look dull and
...
not important compared to the side ones.
BUT, the real story being unraveled at episode 19 ( Which a lot of people saying that there was no explanation to what happened before apparently missed ), it made a lot of sense. The anime is about uneducated children discovering the world as it is, they discover emotions, justice and life while being held in leash by " Papa " and brainwashed superiors. They fight for their freedom, for what they think is good and make mistakes from which they keep learning. Their development is incredible and very pleasant to watch, everything is put on their path, yet they keep growing.
This show is scored low because it's mistook for a post-apocalyptical mecha-fighting anime with deep emotions. Of course they would fail on that point, because this is absolutely not what it is about.
Now that everything has been cleared out regarding the overall opinion everyone has over DiTF, let me brievly explain my scores
Story : 9 - Two characters bounded together find each other back through lost memories to become the savior of humanity and every other living form on Earth. Experimental children created by the actual enemy to fight an unknown ally, a three-way party revealing their trump card one after the other to shake the storyline. What else did we need ? It missed the 10 because of the few time spent on " How does that giant living Mecha work ? "
Art : 8 - While the characters look quite good, the fighting part is not as bright
Sound : 7 - I was expecting a Kimi no Uso ending with a beautiful song spread through the discovery of what earth became. But the overall sound was not as kicking as other emotional anime I've watched so far
Character : 10 - Nothing to say, every character grows on his own and discover different emotions and experience compared to the rest of Squad 13. Outshining the other brainwashed contestants and giving every viewer a character to relate to, this was simply brilliant and I shared a many emotions with each of them. The villains were expected but their true nature wasn't, while the scientists and other side characters also had an interesting tale to tell.
Enjoyment : 9 - Laugh, Joy, Love, Cries .. All I needed
Which makes 8,6 on overall. A well-deserved 9 in my opinion
