This anime is probably one of the most overrated anime I've ever seen, I didn't expect it to be this bad since everybody was rating Tokyo Revengers as their favorite anime of 2021.

To be honest I expected a lot from this anime I've seen it everywhere and people saying it's the best anime of the year and that's a lot to take considering how many good animes got released in 2021. Tokyo revengers is probably one of the most hyped anime of last year even though in 2021 itself there are other amazing shounen animes in the year, not to forget about 2 ... out of 3 big new gen anime (Shingeki no kyojin, Kimetsu no yaiba, Jujutsu Kaisen) at least in my opinion these anime also aired in 2021 and everybody said this anime is the best.

Now to the review, Tokyo Revengers is an anime about the 27 year old Takemichi wanting t save his ex-girlfriend Tachibana Hinata from his middle school days after hearing the news about tachibana Hinata (the gf) and Tachibana Naoto (gf little brother) caused by the recently rising power of Tokyo Manji Gang AKA TOMAN. SPOILER ALERT!! It started on that day when Takemichi got pushed by someone while waiting for the subway which causes him to fall to the tracks with the danger of getting hit by the incoming train, before getting hit by the train he got to relive one day of his youth during his days in middle school. While hanging out with his friends as the "delinquents" in their school they came to a park to challenge another school but surprise-surprise an older group came and defeated them which leads them into becoming a part of TOMAN although unofficially and being slaves. After getting beaten by the group Takemichi and his friends went home he met Tachibana Hinata's little brother getting bullied and saved him then he told Naoto what will happen 12 years to the future which caused him altering the events of the present by saying that Naoto became a detective who is investigating TOMAN and surviving the incident since he wasn't with his sister but Tachibana Hinata still dies in the present also Naoto saved Takemichi from getting hit by the train which started their journey of trying to save Tachibana Hinata.

My main problem with the series is the characters and how badly they are written

Takemichi: Your standard loser MC who's weak but generally a good guy but still weak and thinks he can't do anything.
Mikey: Your standard cool guy who's pretty much overpowered.
Draken: Your standard older brother figure (even though they're the same age) who's also overpowered.
Kisaki: This guy is my main problem with the whole show this guy's writing as the villain can't be worse, he's like a pure evil character straight up a Disney villain at this point, unlike some good written villains such as Uchiha Obito (by far the best written anime villain)
Hinata: The almost standard caring and sweet but also independent gf.
Naoto: Also the almost standard smart guy/guy in the chair.
and the rest of the other characters are still pretty meh in my opinion.

The story in the show are really linear and just another time travel anime the story just use a lot of cliffhangers and a few plot twist. The only redeeming quality of this anime is probably the music. I have to give credit where credit is due Cry Baby by Official Hige Dandism is a good opening and the endings are pretty good too. The seiyuu also did a wonderful job in voicing the characters.

The enjoyment I got from watching this series is just a decent amount of enjoyment
but other people did got a lot of enjoyment from this anime so do watch it if you're interested but this absolutely doesn't deserve a 9/10 not even a 7/10.
