World End is a great show with an organic romance. That being said, it suffers from many different issues on many fronts that must be overlooked to get to the root of this experience.
The romance and character development of most of its main cast but it suffers from pacing and issues with characters that are caused by this anime's 12 episodes run time. The main cast of young children in the orphanage are decent supporting characters but the most important one, being Tiat, receives enough screen time to seem important but is not made relevant enough to the plot even

though it seems she would become the main heroine in the light novel. In addition, I feel like the show would have benefited from an extra couple episodes to flesh out Nephren although it was enough to make me care about her, so the show did its job there. Most of the shows obviously was put toward making the romance between chtholly and Willem unfold as naturally as possible and fleshing out these two characters to endear us to them. This I believe is the strongest portion of the show and the reason why you should watch it. The drama was enough to make me ugly cry at the end and it made me feel deeply invested in these two characters (This is just me might affect others differently). The romance was paced well and made sense even though it seemed doomed to fail eventually because of chtholly's seemingly inevitable memory loss.
Now to move on to the weaker parts of the show. The artwork seemed basic and a little bland. It might have just been the tv I was watching the show on. Also, I disliked the animation cuts during any battle scenes. they were not bad per se because this show is not about the fights, that being said, the choreography was poor and unrealistic. (a couple of the battle scenes did look good this is just a general statement. The music was not memorable for me although this is probably just because I have a hard time remembering the music from any show or movie I watch. Now away from the more minor stuff and on to my main problem with this show. The pacing is not amazing. It feels like certain events such as chtholly's memory happen either too quickly or too slowly and, the whole arc where Willem helps the dog lady in the town felt arbitrarily long and unimportant. Not much character development happened and the only important things that were established was the beginning of the weird scenes where Chtholly loses her memory’s and too make a point and show how closely chtholly is watching Willem. Both of which could be put almost anywhere. Also, the whole thing where Willem meets Suoung and learns about the nature of the fairies/ leprechauns seemed a little too long. It could have been a little shorter maybe to allow for more development of the main cast, but I do not think I should be removed completely because of the foreshadowing of the beasts being human, the fairy’s origin, and establishing how the islands work. To be honest, my main problem is not this short arc about Soong’s length, its where it is placed. It was jarring how Willem leaves the everyone behind in the middle of the episode. It just seemed uncharacteristic of both people. It would have made a lot more sense for Suong to meet Willem at the Fairy Warehouse or to simply have Willem know Suong from the start and have that be how received the job at the fairy warehouse. Overall this scene was just mediocre, but it was a good example of pacing problems, so I wanted to go into it in a bit of detail.
In the end this show set out to craft a love story and in it succeeded spectacularly in that sense. World End, even with its many problems, works well and I believe it could have been much more popular and accepted in its anime form than it is with a bit more time and money. Thankfully I am pretty sure that the light novel did really well in America. In conclusion this show is worth your time if you want to watch a tragic love story. This has been one of the only pieces of media to make me ugly cry, so it will hold a special place in my heart for a long time. From what I hear, the light novel fixes most of the pacing and world building problems that the anime adaptation falters on so I will have to read it to see the comparison between the two for myself. That's about all I have to say about this show without watching the show for a second time and really getting down and dissecting individual scenes which I may end up doing for fun on a blog or YouTube channel. Thanks for reading my review and have a nice day. ( 10 because of its emotional impact if I’m being objective the score would be lower)
