Clannad: After Story (Anime) add

This anime has alot of crap in it. Ugly character designs, troll writing, recycled songs, and cliches. But even after all that it still is a pretty good anime.

Im not sure what the artists were thinking when putting large enough spaces between character's eyes to land an airplane on. Yet alone the fact that the eyes are really weird shapes. At least the animation is pretty good for an anime though. Also keep in mind alot of things in this anime are very bright and shiny. This isnt too important though since this is a story driven anime.

Most of the time it feels like ... a genius wrote this anime. Even though that statement is true, the writing was still done by a troll. This anime can be a major cocktease and does throw some pretty random stuff your way just to mess with you. The ending is a perfect example of the "trolling". I wont spoil it, but it is almost the whole reason I a can't call this anime one of the."greats". It leaves a bad taste in your mouth and almost(but not really) is a middle finger to what you got emotionally invested in. But I can almost assure you will get emotionally invested. Whether it is the coming of age parts, tragic parts, romantic parts, and getting over the tragedy parts. the main bad parts are the supernatural parts. They dont make any sense most of the time and change the story too much.

There is also the matter of cliche's used but they dont hurt the story at all. Even though a few characters can be be described just by saying what archetype they are, it doesnt matter because they are very minor in this season. The bland characters are for the most part left out and used well whenever they decide to actually appear. The small cast of "good" characters get alot of focus which is a breath of fresh air compared to large casts with little to no focus (im looking at you angel beats), yea I know clannad came first fyi. The major characters are just so well developed and intresting you'll never get tired of them.

The main thing to appreciate here is the pacing. It is fast as hell and I love it. I still cannot believe how much can happen in one episode of clannad. if you detest filler episodes stacked with more filler stuffed in half of every meant to be important episode, then this is for you.

The soundtrack, while good, still isnt anythig to write home about. It just isnt the kind of music that never gets old. Which is a shame because the same songs are used almost every episode. Just trust me, whenever someone is about to tell thier sad backstory, you'll know which song is coming. This was just a very minor annoyance by the way.

This anime is by no means boring either. I dare say it is the most hilarious anime ever created. The jokes were never stale and made me crack up every time. I absolutely loathe most humor used in anime. Even though Key has very bland humor in its other works, they somehow blew me away with this anime. There is even a little action thrown in. Well done to.

In conclusion, Just.trust me on this one. I watched this with a very skeptical mindset, hating Key(the producers), and not liking its genre. I even tried to hate it. But still enjoyed it. It was was way too touching in later episodes to deny. Though im still a little upset on the trolling in the last episode, I have to accept it was planned all along and isnt as bad as the halfass trolling animes like bleach do. Definite watch for anyone, just dont expect a masterpiece.

Mixed Feelings

This anime isn't too bad, just a little boring and slow. Even though one would expect an 11 episode series to feel fast.

The story is intresting but not touched upon enough. There is so many pauses in the series just talking about a character's morals instead of actual story. The characters basically are just written as big sacks of morals and nothing else. most of the characters just seem so robotic and just desighned to think a certain way about a subject, but have no personality at all. This is not true about the main character. He is actually well defined and feels human. ...

Devil May Cry (Anime) add

Not Recommended

Watching this anime does nothing but make me ask why. Why is dante babysitting a little girl the whole time? Why is the little girl constantly nagging dante? Why does dante complain about everything? Why are all the action scenes off screen? Why is the soundtrack way too exciting for this? Why do characters walking look like cardboard being dragged across the screen? And: HOW IS THIS AN ACCEPTABLE PRODUCT?

I know it was intended to be a lazy cash-in, but this is an insult to lazy cash-ins. You're better off buying green lantern the game than buying a DVD of this. Street fighter movies had ...

Kekkaishi (Anime) add

Kekkaishi is one of the worst animes I have ever seen. After completing this anime I felt nothing but betrayal. I know that sounds crazy but bear with me.

I could start off by saying that the beggining was boring and bland, but I hardly remember the earlier episodes because of "blandness". You probrobly wont remember them either. Even bleach's first 10 episodes are more memorable.

The anime does pick itself up really fast once the main plot is.introduced though. Kekkaishi's main strength was its battles. Defeating the bigger and stronger enemies was never done by power ups coming out of nowhere or training in an ... empty space like every other shounen. Instead battles are won by refining techniques, stradegy, and teamwork with a lttle bit of willpower thrown in there. It was actually a breath of fresh air see an anime like this. But it really doesnt last long. These battles were this intresting.because a technique called kekkai. It basically was just the ability to make a cube appear out of thin write in any way you want and then make the box implode on itself and kill whatever is inside. They really pushed the imagination with this and it was a good watch for a while. sadly this gets replaced by a technique called zekkai. Zekkai is the most boring thing to watch.

basically this is what is said when zekkai is used: hey I have a barrier surrounding be that burns whatever it touches. Come on attack me. You know you wanna.

Really zekkai could've been used in better ways like using it at good timings before an attack and used in combination with kekkai. But no, its only one or the other and you have to stand still with zekkai. sadly this leads to an absolute embarrassment of a final battle that had an insane amount of build up to it. Some call it disappointment, I call it betrayal.

All this anime sums up to me is a long wait for some really good action scenes and it jumps the shark in the end anyways.

There isnt much story to speak of other than "they fight monster, then fight big monster, then fight fast monster, then fight regenerative monster, then fight monster with x power, then fight monsters that actually count as characters, then we get new guy, etc". There are other components like romance and family tensions but they never pan out to anything in the end so why bother. Except some very forced revenge plots near the end that make the characters look like total jerks and creeps just so we can see a few battles.

As far as characters, they are acceptable but nothing more. the only bad one to speak of is the main character. It is just so hard to stand how much of a prick he becomes near the end.

Overall dont waste your time with 50+ episodes just to see the most lazy ending ever.
