I liked the beginning of kamen teacher. It was a good read at first and I was dieing for more, but then I got more... and I realized why the scanlators were being slow.
The first part of Kamen teacher introduces us to a delinquent high school where the students have gotten completely out of hand. Araki Gota and kamen teacher are hired to deal with it as specialists. Well Araki sends all of his students to the gym and have a fight with "Kamen Teacher". Kamen Teacher drives around on a vespa and beats up all of the students
...
with kick ass martial arts. Then he shaves them bald. I found this absolutely hilarious and I recommend you guys read it too.
Then it gets dull. All of a sudden kamen teacher wants to investigate what made the school rotten so he stops bullying his students, and starts talking to parents and such to find out what happened. I thought this was a betrayal of the reason I started reading the manga so I dropped it there.
My recommendation is simple, read the first 15 chapters maybe closer to 20 I don't remember, then drop the manga. When he starts his investigation it drops the comedy genre and goes into a slice of life genre... There was never much of a story to get into so you don't have to worry about getting hooked.

I liked the manga to be honest. I'm not the kinda guy to get that turned off of cliches. It looked like it had the potential to take off, but WSJ isn't exactly a place where sub-par manga gets a free ride.
In my honest opinion I think the author should start the manga from scratch with another publisher with new ideas. I think it was just a rookie mangaka who screwed up and needs a second chance. There was definitely potential in the manga, I think anyone could see that, but the cliches killed it before it had a chance
...
to get going.
Like the others, I don't recommend reading it because there are just enough issues to get you hooked, but not enough to be worth the read. Rather disappointing if you ask me. Although supporting the author to try again wouldn't be a bad idea.

I did not like this manga, but I will tell you what its about. A shut in genius detective who never leaves his room, and needs someone to work the ground following his instructions over the cellphone. It doesn't matter how incompetent a police officer the person is either as they promote a meter maid who is completely useless as a cop.
The ecchi element is nice though. Lots of fan service and since its a seinen there is nudity and people don't just get cut, they lose arms and get torn in half sometimes.
I tried, I
...
read until chapter 25, but I can't put up with the characters in this story anymore. The story itself is interesting, but the characters are unbelievably weak. I liked the story too, I tried solving a couple of the riddles myself in this one because they seemed interesting and I understood them, but dear god the protagonist is too painful to read about...
The story is good, the puzzles are logical, they give good reasons for most of what happens. I did feel like the stories were a little bit too convenient though... The detective was always in the right place at the right time, tying her to each of the cases before she was even part of the cases. Like mysteriously she just so happened to be meeting her friend at the spot where a clown murder was taking place, or she was having dinner at a cafe just as a bomb was about to go off.
When I say the characters are weak, I only mean the protagonist, Ayaki. Her partner Himuro actually has a personallity like mine. He's screaming at her "THERES MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO BE DOING, SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE IN 5 MINUTES" and shes breaking down crying saying she wants to treat the child who scraped his knee. Then she screams back at him "HOW CAN YOU BE SO COLD!!!"... I seriously want to punch her right now....
Although they kill the character Ayaki even more than she already was being killed with her personallity by treating her like a piece of "Incompetent hot ass". She gets her but slapped by her superior and no one complains or anything. She does almost nothing and if it wasn't for the fact that she mysteriously happens to be in the right place at the right time, then she would literally just be a hot piece of ass. I mean that as in she happens to be the person a serial killer is basing his killings off of and she finally realizes it after about 5 clues which ends up solving the case.
Overall if you don't mind characters like King Yuuri who refuses to shed blood in his kingdom under any circumstances from Kyo Kara Maoh, or the kid who tries to sell his girlfriend into being raped because he gets bullied from The Breaker then you might wanna try reading this. Although if your like me, you might pop a vein in the mean time.

Don't let my score fool you, there's a very good reason this thing didn't get the 9 overall that it should have. The mangaka rushed the damned story. Overall though I think it deserves a read if you can't find anything else.
Its a great manga, but story arcs that should have taken place over 2-3 chapters, ended up taking place over 1-2 pages. cleverly thought out plot twists that should have been high points in the story, felt like cruel jokes by the author because of how rushed they were. They give no backstory to the tricks at all,
...
they just all of a sudden reveal that the character had planted a bunch of bombs when the character had absolutely no time to do that whatsoever.
Anyone who researched story writing will tell you that good stories have foreshadowing. Meaning the author leaves subtle hints about things which you pick up on later in the manga. This story doesn't have foreshadowing, a fact which leaves the whole story feeling rather hollow.
You can however get a very real appreciation for how this manga was meant to be, and like any double A manga you can see its a high quality story line, just really REALLY terribly executed.
Same with characters. There is no backstory given to anyone. Except for a couple of tidbits about the protagonist.
The manga as a whole felt like it was made by a great mangaka who planned out what could have been a successful series with 100 issues, but then at the last minute the publishers said, "No, 16 chapters is good enough for you."

If I was to give a single explanation about what Vampire Juujikai is about, i'd say that it asks the question what does it mean to be a king. What is the truest form of a king. I believe that Vampire Juujikai answers that question. A king is someone who in a split second can sacrifice everything to save his people. He is able to make the hard decisions.
When I read a manga I look for story above all else, well maybe not look for because a good one is so hard to find in manga or tv these days.
...
In all the manga and anime I have read only about 2 of them have lived up to my expectations including this manga. The other being full metal alchemist.
The thing that I look for is a intro with a huge number of story elements in it.
In Vampire Juujikai we have Strauss the 1000 year old vampire who abandoned his own people, now hunted by his own kind and humans alike. With a curse that is seemingly absolute and almost guaranteed to kill strauss eventually. A seemingly endless task of breaking thousands of seals to free his vampire bride who almost destroyed the world. Now with 1000 years of backstory his mortal enemy the Black Swan wants to work together with the vampire king to fight a common enemy.
Any other story mongers out there should recognize, these elements are the makings of an amazing story. These are all introduced at the very beginning of the story and throughout the story are tied together in a web of ellaborate lies and misconceptions.
Don't even read into the sci fi element, there is no sci fi element. I got turned off of reading this amazing story for ages because I thought for the longest time that it was gonna be about some weird ass space invasion.
The only flaw that I can see is the characters. There are several characters which are given seemingly important parts but turn out to have absolutely nothing to do with anything. They are never explored, but they look weird as hell and you think theres a story there, but it's never explored.

The reason I got into this show was because I liked the idea of someone out of the blue finding out that they are the king of the demons. I like supernatural/fantasy elements and I like them to be grounded in a setting that isn't always hardcore action. Finally, the show has to have an evolving plot. In that sense Kyo Kara Maoh is extremely good. King Yuuri's power is a show stopper, and they don't pump you full of action all the time.
I also have some friends who like the show for what I would consider the second
...
good reason to get into the show, the humor. If you like running gags and awkward with a lot of shounen-ai comedy thrown in, then you will probably laugh a lot at Kyo Kara Maoh. I personally can't stand any of that, but I just fast-forward when I see those scenes coming.
As far as quality goes the show has its ups and downs. The show wraps up all its loose ends pretty well considering my standards. As you watch a show, certain questions come up and you wonder what the origin of this antagonist is, Kyo Kara Maoh actually explains them all pretty thoroughly compared to other animes.
My problem with the quality stems down to the japanese anime philosophy that no one is evil and no one should be punished. I grit my teeth a lot of the time watching as yuri constantly says release him, let him go, etc regardless of the persons crimes. That and the extent to which yuri will go to for a peaceful resolution. Its one of those shows where you will literally choke on the sap.
Overall there are a lot of conflicting reasons to watch the show. I don't think that any one person will be completely happy with this show.

When I first watched Yu Yu Hakusho I had a lot of trouble getting into it because it DEFINITELY shows its age as a 20 year old anime... The graphics look worse than DBZ and that show is 10 years older than Yu Yu Hakusho... The sound effects seem very stock and they sound like they were pulled from a NES game. You would never guess this was made in 1992 without knowing before hand.
HOWEVER, once you get past the age of the show, you actually start to get into the plot of the show. The villains are great, the
...
action is solid, and the cast gets along alright.
Apparently the comic relief is also good, but I personally hate all forms of comic relief so read someone elses review for the comedy aspect. They add comic relief to every episode like a baby who rules as a prince in heaven, a complete klutz/moron who operates as one of the fighters who work with the protagonist, and lots and lots of bad puns.
The story is pretty solid at first. The story structure seems to be that a new bad guy is introduced at the start of a story arc threatening to destroy the world, and the protagonists train and get a bit stronger and they fight, win, and repeat. The the scale of the opponents strengths and the evil of their plans get stronger every season. My favorite arcs were always the tournament arcs.
My biggest problem with the story was how they ended the series. I banged my head on the desk thinking this ending sucks. The entire series it felt like they were building to something and then at the end they wrap it up so quickly it feels like they just wanted to end the series. Its one of those endings where they make everyone look like a good guy, even the demons. Everyone has an epiphany and suddenly the human race is best friends with the demon world...
The characters seem to try to cover all the bases. Yusuke is your wild and heroic protagonist, who I especially like as he often says things in the kind of a gray light you just don't expect to hear from a japanese character. Kuruma is the kind and sly character that always has something intelligent to say. Hiei is the badass demon who speaks his mind and is only going along with the group because it suits his needs, but he really has a deeper emotional motive when you look a bit deeper. Finally, Kuwabara is the dumb klutz I talked about earlier, I want him to die a painful and slow death so don't ask me about him.
I said earlier that the sound effects felt like they were ripped out of an old NES game... Often you will feel like an amateur could make sound effects like these with some voice modulators and a bit of knowledge. They don't just say the names of their attacks, they actually change the way their voices sound when they say them. It doesn't sound bad, but every time they say an attack you remember exactly how old this anime is.
Overall, the show needs to be watched, but get ready for that disappointing ending and the overbearing comic relief.

STORY - 7.0
The story mainly has this pattern: we are introduced to someone with a problem, the secondary characters try and intervene and get their asses kicked, then hibino gets in the middle of it and destroys all of the enemies with nothing but his fists and an arsenal of weapons that he pulls out from under his shirt (comically referenced as doraemon) and defeats all the bad guys singlehandedly and easily.
THE GOOD: Lots of back and forth in every story arc. Lots of story arcs with bad guys ranging from spoiled rich kids to biker gangs fighting over territory. One
...
sided domination as soon as the main character Hibino gets involved in the fight. The back stories of each of the protagonists is explored with every arc as well, so the arcs aren't completely self contained.
THE BAD: The story doesn't really go anywhere, and if it does, it takes WAY too long to do it. Hibino announces his goal as world domination, but all he seems to do all day long is brawl with the local gangs trying to help his troubled friends. After about chapter 100 you start to see the problems. The villains stop getting stronger and the stories seem to repeat themselves. It bugged me when we went from fighting a massive citywide biker gang bent on conquering all of japan to a high school bully trying to steal a jacket. Also the formula for the show never changes.
I also really hate the character development. We hear stories about their friends in the past and some connection they had which is now coming back to haunt them, but these character developments are badly written. Let me explain it this way, In One Piece, we see Nami early extremely hesitant about joining the crew, and we wonder why. Her character development was thus made more entertaining because it was answering a question we wanted an answer too. In Hareluya II Boy however, a random character comes out of the woodworks, tells some random story about how he/she used to be friends with one of our protagonists and how they are in trouble now. The story basically asked and answered the questions. There was absolutely no mystery involved.
Characters 8.5:
It's fun watching the dominant hibino making fools out of 100 man biker gangs and he has a very entertaining personality in that manner. We also have a rocker who is pretty cool and seems like a good character and is very good at brawling.
The other characters are pretty much hit and miss filler characters. We have a midget art student who is always getting picked on. A hot chick who is dating the midget, the two of them together actually makes the story much more goody goody than it has to be. Always giving a goody goody speech about immorality...
Around chapter 100 they brought in a really old artist. He seems like a completely pointless addition to the cast which makes no sense at all.
Enjoyment 8:
The first 100 chapters or so are really entertaining even if some of the characters piss you off and the story arcs seem really shallow, its really fun watching hibino kick everyone's ass. After that it just gets stale and repetitive because it becomes obvious how shallow the story arcs are.
MY SUGGESTION:
Read it, its a good fun story, and will keep you entertained. The stories are shallow, but you don't really notice it until about 100 chapters in, so my suggestion is read until you get bored. It starts out pretty well and if it was just the first 100 chapters I would score it a 9.

The plot is that a con artist who is wanted to serve life in prison becomes a school teacher because of a bizarre turn of events. The principal hopes to use him to con his troubled students into behaving again.
Heres a quick summary of facts for you
-original idea
-very funny
-you will love the characters
-jaw dropping surprise every chapter
Heres how the plot line of each volume goes.
...
1)Our teacher finds out about a student in trouble somehow or another.
2)He researches them
3)He works his way into their lifestyle (remember this is a professor and the students lifestyle involves things like robbery or crazy parties)
4)He uses his knowledge of the student to push them into doing a better job of whatever they are trying to do.
5)He blows it up in their faces
6)He picks up the pieces and uses it in a jaw dropping scheme to get them back on the right track.
As far as my character rating goes, they haven't really used a couple of the secondary main characters yet in any meaningful way. But other than that the characters are brilliant
As far as the art goes, Its great, just I have seen better. Not really a big factor in this kind of manga.
PS Don't watch the J-Drama version. It will disappoint and bore you to tears. Half the fun in this series is the reaction of the stunned students as to what is going on, the J-Drama can't express that and they make up a lot of bad story lines as well. The characters are completely without appeal as well.

This is the story of a guy who judges criminals by his own set of morale principles through a secret government shadow organization. He kills criminals mercilessly and probably in the most painful manner possible.
Quick facts
- Its not gory
-Its mainstream
-its based around a secret government organization
-there are super powers
-its high action
plotline is about the ethics of killing criminals (how far should law enforcement go in punishing criminals). Basically the story is saying "What would it be like if the victim was put first in every situation?" Is this a world you would want to live in? It also argues the
...
other side as well, theres a second main character who argues that no one should be killed and when she does this, it blows up in her face every time.
If anyone is fed up with all of the manga which has some dumbass kid saying killing is wrong under any circumstance no matter how many lives are at stake, then this manga is for you. I can't tell you how relieved I am reading this after reading something like The Breaker where killing is strictly forbidden by one annoying character.
The story isn't too deep really. They start out with pretty much everything explained fairly well so the story can end at any time. Theres no great mysteries given at the start of the manga which are slowly revealed as the plot moves forward, but its a solid story with evolving characters and evolving powers.
Overall, I gave it a 9 because it is one of the great mainstream mangas.
