KonoSuba had a great start, an interesting idea, and good execution. It was a parody and it was funny. These go together perfectly. However, during the first season, towards the last few episodes, KonoSuba was absolutely ruined. Multiple things caused this - ecchi fanservice, no development, no plot advancement, and it became an absolute joke. Trust me, I like fanservice as much as the next guy, but when the show becomes only centered around fanservice, it becomes horrible.
Anyways, back to the OVA. I guess I shouldn't have expected anything big with plot, but at least something interesting involving the original ideas for the show. I

mean, perhaps they ran out of ideas towards the end of the first season, which is kind of silly considering it's only 10 episodes, but I hoped they didn't fall into a pit of despair where they gave up on the idea and just threw a bunch of nude girls to the audience and hope they got good ratings.
I guess I was wrong.
This OVA was pure fanservice. I already saw the direction it was going when a half nude girl was introduced to the show. The plot appeared to be written by a horny 12 year old who just wanted a way to justify naked girls on television. The characters were basically made fun of because they showed no resistance, and the MC turned into a terrible human being who was definitely different than the show. The original plot basically ceased to exist, so they might as well be anywhere because it apparently isn't important anymore. This, unfortunately, confirmed my belief that the second season will probably be similar to the end of the first season and this OVA.
I understand that fanservice is sometimes good and that ecchi elements can produce humor, and that this show in the first season used some of that to their advantage. I do agree. However, this is definitely not the same show I watched the first season. It was all just for fanservice, and that makes a show absolutely terrible. The art and sound were both great, but know for sure this isn't the same show anymore.
There's not much else to write, except that I'm ashamed the producers allowed the show to stoop to the level of a typical ecchi harem series. Watch it for the ecchi, however, don't watch it for the plot. It's a completely joke.

After watching the first two seasons of Yuru Yuri, I was really excited about the third one, and watched it as soon as I finished the second season. The problem turned out to be the show took a very different route, and failed in its purpose.
So the first season established some funny inside jokes and good character description, so it made the show funny and cute, which are a very good combo. The second season continued the things that made the first season a success, but added some relationships to promote the yuri aspect of it, making it all the better. We see relationships form,
...
and progress throughout the season.
However, the third season breaks this trend - it is decided that all the inside jokes should stop, and change the pace of the season completely separate to the first two, making it more slice of life, and less Yuru Yuri.
I definitely see why they did it - they decided to focus on the "yuri" aspect of it, which is definitely welcome. However, adding a few extra yuri scenes doesn't really cut it for me, because we see almost no development of the relationship, and instead get frustrated by the encounters. Because it took the serious route, it lost all of the original Yuru Yuri touch, and it failed at being serious with no character development, which caused the whole season to fail. I forced myself to watch it because I really hoped it got better, but except for one episode, it was really boring.
However, the worst part was Chinatsu. I get that some people might like how she loves her senpai Yui, and she does some crazy things to get her attention. Although I find it cringey, I get that some people like it, and it was pretty chill throughout the whole thing, so I largely wrote it off and continued to enjoy the show. However, I felt like most of the time that was the ONLY thing happening, and by god did it get annoying. We just have this girl getting close to raping Yui and being super cringe about it, and basically ruining everybody's day with it. I mean, I was hoping somebody would beat her up or kick her out or something, but alas, it did not happen.
Although the rest of what I said really added to lowering the rating of this show, the Chinatsu thing was just awful. I was dying of boredom and fury at the end for her even existing. If you didn't really like her, you should never watch this season or you will be very disappointed.
My main reason for writing a review for this show is because it is an absolute DISGRACE this got higher ratings than both previous seasons, because it doesn't compare to the enjoyment of the first two. They were funny, cute, and full of yuri. This was boring, completely threw away the idea of Yuru Yuri, and failed at having any significant impacting yuri. You cannot just change the pace of the show like that - it just broke the flow of the show.
If you really liked Yuru Yuri, I would probably recommend because it will keep you awake at night if you don't finish it, but it's something that you can easily skip, especially if you didn't enjoy the series much.

Ok, so to begin, there's a few things I must mention.
First of all, probably like most of you, I began this series as a joke after seeing it on a list of most f***ed up anime, so I definitely wasn't expecting anything out of this.
Secondly, this show, like most other reviewers said, takes advantage of shock comedy. This is definitely not for everyone, and if you don't like that, or are very timid of lolis, then I'm afraid this show is not for you.
Now, let's begin the review.
At first glance, Kodomo no Jikan seems like a pedophile's anime; this is because of the ecchi scenes

the kids cause, and how the teacher fails to react appropriately to these situations, making him appear like a lolicon. This is understandable, because the first 5 episodes are basically that, just 3rd graders teasing a teacher and getting him into compromising situations. However, if you can bulldoze past that and watch the rest, you'll see it is so much more than that.
Kodomo no Jikan is actually an anime demonstrating two things: the psychological aspect of a child, and the inability for adults to understand children in the way they want to be understood.
I know this sounds weird, but at about the 6th episode, you'll see what I'm talking about. What most people don't understand, is that children have a much different thought process compared to adults. Because adults don't understand this, they naturally conform the children to behave and act just like what the adults deem is right. However, this could not be more incorrect.
Children are very vulnerable to influence compared to adults, because they are just beginning to learn how the world works. The two main sources of influence tend to be their home environment, and their school environment. As newcomers to school, children are at their most creative - they are not limited by reality until later into school, usually middle school. The reason their imagination becomes limited is because adults don't understand how children think, and refuse to even attempt to do so; instead, they force them to conform to the rigid rules of society.
All of this is shown in this anime. The teacher (Aoki-sensei) is a brand new teacher, and therefore not accustomed to the way school works. Therefore, he has great ideas, unhindered by the school's rules. The foil of his character is depicted by Shirai-sensei, the typical old school strict teacher. She constantly belittles Aoki for his methods of teaching and handling his kids, and tries to force him into the traditional style of teaching.
However, alongside this, he also has interactions with the three 3rd graders who make his life much more difficult. During these many interactions, the teacher Aoki misunderstands what the children are trying to tell him, because he views them as kids, as most adults do, and this is a problem in society. As we cast away children's thoughts as insignificant and worthless, we give them the mentality that they are insignificant and worthless, and this hurts a child so much. Luckily, our heroines are very defiant and try to fix this problem by trying to explain their thoughts to Aoki.
As "relationship" problems began to occur, we end up seeing Aoki finally grasp the meaning of what the children are trying to say, albeit after many tears have been shed from responses made without thinking.
We also see the fickle nature of children as they desperately attract attention, because children cannot be neglected – they need love at that time of their life more than any other time. Many of the people who watch this fail to see past the ecchi nature of the 3rd graders, and into their minds to see why they are doing this. This show does very well in mimicking the thought process of a child, and really opens your eyes to the world around us. I cannot say more about this without spoilers, but just think about it deeper than what you simply see.
This ended up becoming much longer than what I had actually wanted, but I hope this convinces you to watch this great show. Please try to look past the cover, and focus on the inner meaning of this anime, as it does have a very good story. Thanks for reading.
