(This review was written after watching up to episode 18)
This anime has blown my mind so far. Quite possibly one of the darkest, most enjoyable anime for me in a long time.
So lets start the review.
Storywise, Guilty Crown (from here on referred to as GC) gets a little confusing. The beginning isn't very well explained, nor are the circumstances behind the apocalypse that happened, namely Lost Christmas. Atleast until episode 9, when they actually go do a back story. It felt like an after thought. So why did I give the story a 9? Because after the 10th or 11th episode, it becomes a completely
...
different anime, one where the main character is forced to overcome himself and his flaws in a dark, human way.
The art in GC isn't anything you haven't seen before, but it fit with the dark, post apocalyptic mood, and the happy cheery moments were well designed. I gave it an 8, mostly because each character was drawn in a recognizable way, unlike some factory pushed anime where you can barely tell the main character and his best friend apart. I gave it an 8 for the feel.
The sound wasn't any different, and didn't stand out in really any way. I like the voice actors for Shu and Gai though.
This is where GC excels as far as I'm concerned. Characters. Each individual character has their own motives and real, human personalities. There aren't really any stereotypical anime characters in GC, far as I can tell. And the conflict, succulent.
I am thoroughly enjoying GC, and all I can hope is this trend in anime continues.
