Hate to call a lot of people out and although opinion is individual I'm going to say straight up anyone who rated this anime low was watching it for the wrong reasons or simply didn't get what was going on
as the OVA goes if anyone had a problem understanding what was going on, once again they were watching the anime looking for something that it wasn't offering.
The series...is about children, not just children but pre-teens to roughly 15....in addition the characters are all females, growing up and learning to deal with their emotions. If you missed that then the anime clearly wasn't aiming at you

The other world where brs ,strength, dead master and black gold star existed started because of yuu who wanted to run from the pain of reality of the other world embodies the pain of the main characters and the reason why they only fought with BRS is because she was the link between all the girls..now this is where it gets complicated...watching the anime and the development of kuroi mato; she is a kind heart care-free girl with (seemingly) no troubles and emotional pain...as you watch the anime in episode whatever cuz I can't remember. Yuu tells kuroi that she would like to go visit tiny bird( can't remember her name) and without getting jealous or envious or even showing the slightest bit of suspicion mato immediately thanks Yuu for being so kind...this is the kind of person kuroi is....now her link to BRS AND the reason why she wanted to destroy the (pain) others is because that is the person that kuroi is...BRS destroyed the wheelchair girl in the other realm thus forcing her to feel better....where the problem lies in this anime is kuroi (BRS) for not allowing the others to develop and deal with their emotions as the come...remember all the mains are comprised of young teen girls that have to deal with a lot of emotion such as old friendships, new emerging ones, crushes, trust, loyalty to old friends while making room for new ones and most of all letting go...those fighters in the other realm are the embodiments of the bad feelings that develop in these girls
Contd - for example in the series. The relationship between kuroi and tiny bird worsens and in the other realm, when the relation hit a breaking point she's encased is anger and chains form around her, getting stronger and thicker. When she finally breaks dead master emerges.
Point of the anime is about girls growing up in a potentially emotional hostile environment and learning to deal with their emotion as the happen opposed to someone else dealing with them, which gives rise to the other dimension and the purpose of BRS. kuroi loves and cares so much about her friends that she (and BRS) will do anything to ease their pain. As the anime ended you see BRS fighting herself because she doesn't want to be separated from her emotions. She doesn't want to have her feeling come and go without resolving them herself
I seriously hope that this helps because the action in this anime was far beyond anything I have ever seen since I first watched Venus wars when I was 6 and every anime to happen after that.....I mean common people where talking about dull lengthed fighting scenes here....none of that screen goes black st the moment of impact then a white line slashing the screen only to reveal the victor...that kinda stuff is for mangas, and this truly showed the insane potential fighting amines have
The OVA clearly states without saying -and even from the first fight between BRS and dead master- that the 2 are connected...finding facial similarities between mato and BRS, is quite easy...and in order to understand why BRS goes searching and fighting dead master you have to simply look at the state of the 2 friends in the real world. Speaking only for myself it took me very little time to understand that BRS wanted only to erase her friends pain (dead master) and the embodiment of it
If anyone on the future is having trouble understanding I hope this not so quite review straightens certain things out...and also watch NOEIN if you want to understand difficulty of paralleling 2 stories.
This is for all the people who had overwhelming emotions and wished they couldrun from it...or wished that something else can take on you pain, or wished that someone would take the pain away - that is the sole reason why the other universe exists.
And for those wondering why all the other students in the junior high weren't in the other dimension was because the end of the series shows us that it was kuroi(BRS) who united them. The story is about those girls, not every single person in the school
