[SLIGHT SPOILERS]
男子高校生の日常 (Daily Lives of High School Boys) made me think about my favorite anime youtubers' opinions and how my own tastes conflict. After seeing TheAnimeMan praise this show for being extremely humorous, my friend and I decided to watch this show. We prepared ourselves for a lot of goofs and a lot of laughs.
He loved it, finishing the show to its end. I, on the other hand, only got to episode six.
Here is why.
The story is simple - it follows the daily lives of high school boys. This must be a setup for something special - something that would remind one of such shows
...
like Nichijou. But, the show is really what the title says it is. It really is the daily lives of high school boys. Nothing ridiculous happens in the show (apart from the first episode, which is just a predictable fourth wall break) and that sets me in the mood for a really normal show with sprinkled humor - not the show I was told about. As the story progresses, the jokes decrease in originality and I lose any interest in any conflict that may occur during the episode. Such a shame.
Nothing wrong with the art style. Not ugly, yet not really revolutionary. I don't consider this to be a problem, so that is why it is an eight out of ten.
The OST is so-so. It isn't really notable, however the opening song is extremely catchy.
The voice actors really suit their roles well and they never fail to deliver their lines with the enthusiasm a show like this requires. No problem here.
The characters are unique cliches. Okay, let me explain. They originally came of as interesting characters, like how one of them was bullied and that another one mysteriously saved them - without knowing their identity - then later they befriend each other without the knowledge of previously met. That was an interesting concept and could of been developed - and maybe it did. However, then they revert back to normal perverted teenage mode, cracking some bland joke. They eventually mix into the background and are easily forgettable. Comedy should not mean shit characters. It is not an excuse.
I fairly enjoyed the first four or so episodes of the show. Then, when the writers began to run out of ideas, they repeated jokes and after a while, brought back characters that you really don't care about - not like you CAN care about any of the cast at all. After I saw this, I quit the show seven episodes in with a sick feeling in my stomach. I wanted this to be enjoyable, and it was for a small amount of time, but then it spiraled into numbness and cliche-land.
Overall, I do not recommend this to anyone who likes to see stories with comedy but isn't drowned out by it. If you want a fun anime and if you can get over repetition easier than myself, then this show is for you.

'It is like Code Geass!' they said. 'It questions racism and what it is to be a species,' they said.
'Eggs,' Inaho replied back, his face unchanged by the barrage of compliments.
The fans of Aldnoah.Zero looked at each other and shrug, 'Hey, it is best sort of humor a show like this can make.'
No, no it isn't.
The story is decent. Not much of it memorable, maybe a few 3D animated fight scenes here and there. Humans are fighting... humans. Not martians (as the show loves to point out), just people who live on Mars. Even when the ...ugh, 'Martians' gain overwhelming power, they would still have
...
human blood running through them. It makes no sense why they would dissociate completely from the ...oh come on, 'Terrians'?! Who the fuck came up with that sort of conflict? Sure racism can exist between humans, however the only things that are different about the 'Martians' and the 'Terrians' (is that how you spell it?) is where they live. Not skin color, not ethical differences, just financial and living area differences. No human being would ever, I mean ever, think that those two differences means that they are a completely new race.
Art is stunning. I mean, apart from the blatantly crap 3D animated mechas - which are even animated 3D in static backgrounds -, A1Pictures have talented artists that can draw and animate with fluidity and beauty. Maybe the characters have a case of the duckbill-lip syndrome, but the setting and fight scenes are explosively intricate and enjoyable.
The music is the best thing about this show. Sawano Hiroyuki is one of the best composers present in the industry currently. If you are a producer and want to have an awesome dubstep-piano soundtrack, look no further than to Sawano. Even when your story is predictable and ridiculous - or even when your character are as bland as they concrete they destroy with their mechas (we'll come to that soon enough) - if you have Mr. Sawano as a composer on your team, the soundtrack is guaranteed to not flop like the rest of your anime. Great man!
The voice actors were also good, even though their characters limited their ability.
Oh god, the characters. The characters. I mean, come on Gen - wait, he only wrote the first episode? The good episode? Who wrote the rest of it... a Takayama Katsuhiko? That makes sense now. Anyway, the characters are bland and uninteresting. Inaho is a cardboard box that eats poultry that is more rounded than himself. The only other character I remember by name is Slaine - and he is just another emo blond character with identity issues. There was also that princess-girl, what was her name? Asses- no, that is probably the most ridiculous name for a character I have ever seen. Sweet merciful egg- I mean Christ, dammit!
The only enjoyment you can get out of this show are the fight scenes and the amount of jokes you can make out of the bland characters. I watched this show in sub and in the middle of a scene, I turned off the sound and began mocking stupid voices for each of the characters. That made it so much more interesting and I got a lot more out of it. But aside from that, this show bored the fuck out of me.
Overall, I would not recommend this to anyone who has - or hasn't - seen anime in their lives. It will ruin your perception on the whole industry. Do not watch this show. DON'T EVEN STREAM IT. I couldn't finish this one, especially after finding out the ending of season two. Not worth the wait.

暗殺教室 (Assassination Classroom) is one of the most enjoyable animes I have ever watched. Nothing in this show failed to surprise me in the slightest, even going so far to bring in plot points you have long forgotten about.
The story of Ansatsu Kyoushitsu never slows down. Whilst many animes with 22 episodes love to add filler episodes to fill up space, this anime uses these 'filler episodes' to make you learn more about the characters - and boy, is there a lot of characters to learn about.
Art style is refreshing. I have not yet seen another anime with the sort of comic-book style the show
...
resonates. Very unique, yet not overly complicated for its own good.
The sound - more off, the music - is what you expect in a show about assassination. It builds tension and pays off with a realistic situation - or even humorous one. The voice acting in both sub and dub are well done, but as an English speaker, I kept with the dub. It did not ruin the experience for me.
The characters are all separate and each have their flaws and weaknesses. E Class is full of teenagers, rejected by the school they chose to be taught in, simply because they behave differently with the common agenda. The teachers of E Class, including Kuro-sensei, are teachers I wish I had whilst I was in high school. Likable and good at counseling - while keeping their own skills apart of them.
The only gripe I have with the characters of this anime - and why characters are not 10/10 - is the non-E Class school children. Sure, they are despicable, however nothing else can be said about their personalities. They are not as rounded as I wanted them to be and it is a shame, considering how rounded the main characters are.
Enjoyment. Holy shit, this anime made me laugh out loud so many times. It is a perfect blend of humorous tension and real life tension, all mixed into a lovely fluffy dough. Most animes seem to dump its message in the name of humor, however this anime did not, keeping its message of 'never giving up, even in the face of defeat' whilst adding humor that all age groups can laugh at. The characters are beaten down, get up, crack a one liner, and bite back. I love this show because of that.
Overall, this is a total recommendation for anyone who wants a fun, yet relateable anime. You will not regret spending 22 episodes with E Class and, of course, Kuro-sensei.
