Oh Death Note. How much i love thee. Death Note has to be one of the Greatest works of fiction ever created. The story is pulse pounding with it's main characters progression from an incredibly smart teenager, who turns into a cold hearted psychopath. This show has some of the most absolutely intense scenes i've ever seen, and most of them are just with two characters talking! How?! Well it's because of the ingenious writing put into this spectacular crime drama. The greatest part of this show is the rivalry between main character Light Yagami and the worlds greatest detective, L Lawliet. These two, own

every scene they are in (Even though they are there practically every scene, still.) Every time one is two steps ahead of the other, the other gets four steps ahead. It's incredible how a show can make writing in a notebook and eating a potato chip looks so damn awesome. Interesting themes are also brought up in the story as well. Is it right to kill just in the name of justice? How far does one go to achieve success? The music deserves some special praise as well. From it's laid back guitar riffs to it's mind-blowing orchestral pieces, the music could have you listening to the soundtrack on YouTube for hours. The second part of Death Note, though not as engrossing as the first part, is still suspenseful and in my opinion, done well given the fact that an important character dies that was essential to the plot. With all of that said, Death Note is intense. It's characters are awesome, the story and plot are great, and the presentation is fantastic. It hooks you in with every scene even if most are of dialogue. It's remarkably different than other Shonen series. (Yes this is a Shonen, i know it's crazy)

What can i say about Squid Girl? It's cute, funny and just down right odd, but in a good way. It's nothing great by any means, but it does have decent animation, an adorable protagonist, and some pretty funny moments. Most of the lead cast besides Squid Girl herself, are pretty boring and one dimensional however, they all have good moments at least once. The story is nothing to be looked into, but it does fit the tone of the show. This show kind of reminds me of a softer, weirder japanese version of Invader Zim in a way. With the main protagonist trying to

take over the world and failing in comedic fashion. Something i just don't understand is why they had to add small scenes of weird sexual innuendos into a children's anime, but okay. If you can do it without being blatant and obvious, go for it, but two scenes really stood out of place. With what was given and while taking into account that this wasn't meant to be the greatest show ever, it did it's job. It made me laugh. I had fun.

With how decent Naruto part 1 was, many people moved on to Naruto Shippuden, part 2 of the popular anime series. While in the manga it is still called Naruto, Part 2 enters a 3 year time skip after the events of Naruto part 1. And here's where it all goes wrong. Not at the start of of course. Actually everything seems to be going the Naruto way (Not that that's perfect or anything, just serviceable). When you have a series that goes on this long, one would expect you to write yourself into many corners, and that's exactly what happens here. Naruto Shippuden taints

the foundation of what made Naruto so great. The animation is worse, the story loses focus, action shifts itself into a penis measuring contest where every fight tries to outdo the last with little to no fines or choreography, characters stay one dimensional throughout the entire run time, and of course we shift from a story about ninjas into a story about divine power and who gets to own it. Most people may see this as "upping the ante", but to me, it's just a lazy and poorly written way to boost manga sales and anime views without actually delivering some worthwhile content that can leave a deep impact emotionally, like a story should. Naruto Shippuden also manages to somehow rewrite it's own themes and messages given prior and ruin some of it's lead cast of characters, including Naruto Uzumaki himself. The series succeeds to pull things from out of nowhere, and treat them as standard fare. How was Guy able to even leave a scratch on Six Paths Madara? (I know it was the eight gate, but Madara was basically omnipotent at that point, and taijutsu did him in a bit? Bullshit) How was it that Kaguya's will was used to create Black Zetsu when we saw Madara create it himself? How was Madara able to revive himself with izanagi if he was already dead? How come Obito was able to survive the Ten Tails extraction? Better yet, why the fuck does Kaguya even exist?! And why is Naruto the Child of Prophecy when his characters theme was carving your own path? And by god that horribly rushed ending... I can go on about how Naruto Shippuden really dropped the ball, but it would take too long. In short, Shippuden seems ambitious, but it falls flat in the end with little to no pay off.
