I'm visually impaired so I don't focus on visuals as much as a lot of folks. What I look for in anime and manga are stories and presentation that engage my academic and emotional interest. To be honest, anime with fast moving, complex visuals (usually fight scenes) are pretty much wasted on me unless I pause/rewind a lot to get the details of the scene, so I don't watch many action shows.
I don't speak Japanese aside from a few tourist phrases, but I found that I have gotten pretty snobbish on voice acting quality which ironically keeps me away from most dubs I'll watch subs as long as I am able.
I'm well aware of my biases and preferences and try to be mindful of them when reviewing or commenting.
