Let me first explain that I am a classical pianist who appreciates a slow story with a beautiful meaning. If this isnt you, then feel free to head back now. BUT, you dont need to be a classical pianist, let alone a pianist in general to appreciate this anime. When I first heard about this anime, I was sucked in from the very beginning.
Main character Arima Kosei is a genius pianist who at the age of 8 was the youngest to ever win a piano competition. Yet, at the death of his mother (also his very strict piao teacher) Kosei broke down in the

middle of a competition and lost the ability to hear the notes he plays. This is not due to hearing issues, he can hear other people perform just fine, but when he plays he cannot hear the notes. After the death of his mother, he quit the piano. Two years later, (current) he meets a girl who is a flashy, unique violinist who "wakes him up" in a sense.
This anime is about classical piano competitions and music, but the deeper meaning deals with pain and and suffering and overcoming those obstacles. Everyone has their own story to tell, and has their own reasoning behind what they do, and the story behind one's actions can be beautiful yet painful. They use music to deal with the struggles we face in our lives, no matter how difficult it may be. It has a beautiful story and the use of music as a "middle ground" between everyday life and struggles is beautiful.
I reccomend this anime for anyone, i showed it to my friend who plays guitar and listens to hardcore punk rock, and he loves it. So you dont have to be a pianist to appreciate this. There's a deep story behind the main characters, and the way they tell these stories it inspiring and beautiful. Must watch!
I rated it 10 for everything because I appreciated every aspect of this anime. But this is simply my own opinion.
